Our story and our call for a national public enquiry into failing maternity services in England. We need to get to the root of the problems faced by trusts across the country and make real positive steps for change. Midwives are under extraordinary pressures and need support.
“We weren’t listened to”
Katie Fowler and Robert Miller lost their daughter at two days old due to failings at a maternity unit, according to a coroner.
They are calling for a national public inquiry into the standards of care across the UK.

Clown land honestly 🤡 could be 2.5 years into a public inquiry if Labour had acted decisively when elected. Instead we'll wait a year for an action plan after a "rapid" review that didn't even analyse evidence effectively. Meanwhile death & harm continues.

A little slow to this, but this is an excellent piece from the President of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists on the challenges facing maternity care. Honest and helpful.

The coroner's conclusion for Olivia blows my mind: Kimberley attended hospital with severe abdominal pain & blood pressure so low she was close to cardiac arrest & rather than investigate they diagnosed her with trapped wind - yet nothing could have changed the outcome?? 🤯

The coroner ruled that if the mother had been seen on arrival, she would have had a Caesarean by at least 1.25am, rather than at 2.02am.
If this had happened, the baby “would on balance have survived”

A single breath should not determine whether a baby’s death can be independently investigated.
That is the whole campaign.

Stillborn babies are denied access to coroners. This means there’s an incentive not to record “signs of life” - like a breath.
If we are serious about NHS transparency - and how we can improve care - let’s start here:
I spoke to @SkyNews about why stillborn babies like Aubrey are denied access to coroners.
Parliament acted in 2019. Seven years later: no report, no timetable.
One breath should not decide whether a baby’s death can be investigated.

This says as much about the @CQCProf as @UHSussex. Two inspections at Worthing about a year apart. Why did they upgrade the rating in the first place? Was it on the promise of improvement that never came? Questions still to answer for the regulator here.

I'm glad @YvetteCooperMP has met with *someone* regarding maternity. Meanwhile, bereaved parents are still waiting for a reply to our letter. It has been almost two months and we are beginning to feel ignored - so yes, it stings a bit that celebrities are being prioritised.
.@YvetteCooperMP met @LouiseAThompson to thank her for speaking out about her traumatic birth experience and campaigning for the creation of a new Maternity and Neonatal Commissioner.
This is a new role with statutory powers to help make care safer and more consistent for all.

It feels so unfair that former executives refused to take part in #Ockenden review. Over 500 mothers and babies suffered potentially avoidable death/ harm.
Why is this only ever ok in the #NHS and maternity. In any other walk of life they would be in jail #Nottingham
