I don’t understand the “we don’t have anyone willing to build natural gas plants” line from the Premier. Next year Alberta will see 2700 new MW of gas come online, the largest single year build out ever.
Ottawa must stop passing illegal and unconstitutional laws, period.

President Michael D Higgins has led tributes to Shane MacGowan, saying his songs seemed to capture “the measure of our dreams”. MacGowan’s death at 65 comes after a prolonged period of ill health, including time spent in intensive care. irishtimes.com/culture/music…

Thrilled that my paper on an Alberta Pension Plan was accepted for publication in Canadian Public Policy! 🥳 While it will take time to appear in the journal (March issue), the final version is here: papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.… #ableg #cdnecon 🧵 🤓

Why is the Bank of Canada owned by the government? Because Alberta Premier William Aberhart invaded Saskatchewan. A nerdy thread about the Bank and Bible Bill for #cdnecon, #ableg, and #cdnpoli. 🤓🧵

One critique by the UCP of Alberta’s carbon tax was that it was not campaigned on. The Alberta Pension Plan is several orders of magnitude more significant a policy move. If it’s not part of the campaign, I’m puzzled how they would revisit it afterwards.

Calgary paying $538m for a new arena. Some politicians say there’s no taxpayer cost. That’s misleading. Public money not free + has other uses. At 5%, the flow value of the subsidy is like a permanent 2.4% increase in res PTax ($88/yr for median res). That’s how I think about it

In honor of Ryuichi Sakamoto who passed away today, I have created a video compilation of all the ringtones and alerts on the Nokia 8800, most of which are his work. Please take a listen, some lovely sounds here. youtu.be/z9intgzzLfk

“From the Buddhist perspective, life and death are two phases of a continuum. Life does not begin at birth nor end at death. Everything in the universe—from invisible microbes in the air we breathe to great swirling galaxies—passes through these phases. Our individual lives are part of this great cosmic rhythm. Everything in the universe, everything that happens, is part of a vast living web of interconnection. The vibrant energy we call life which flows throughout the universe has no beginning and no end. Life is a continuous, dynamic process of change.” - sokaglobal.org Wayne, we will forever feel you as the light of your next phase now officially activates. 👊🏾❤️
