Uk Gilt yields now at the highest point since 1998. Not the Truss stitch-up, not the Covid lockdowns, not the banking crisis of 07/08. And GILTS are outstripping both official inflation figures and the BoE base rates. There are no levers the BoE can pull to fix this. The government has one action it can take. It has to drastically cut spending. Not 2010 era cuts….that opportunity passed a long time ago, we’re talking real austerity, pension age will have to go past 70. And we’ll need to keep running surpluses for decades or our currency will make the Argentine Peso seem stable. Time to stop bullshitting the public.
