my vocal synth models the vocal tract as a network of branching acoustic tubes, unlike vocaloid which stitches together and pitch-shifts phoneme recordings. still working on improving naturalness by tuning it against recordings of real singers, but I'm already impressed at how cool it sounds!

Today we release Mirage: A 22 MB visual-language model that runs scene descriptions + object detection + OCR + segmentation + spatial relations analysis + extractions + decisions, in a single pass.
It can do all that in 74 ms on Samsung Galaxy S26 NPU or 107 ms on its CPU.
Mirage has a 7.8M encoder + a 40.8M decoder at 2bits, and describes images in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch and Polish.
We trade general language capacity, to compete top small VLMs today (SmolVLM2-500M, LFM2.5-450M and Florence2-230m) on these tasks.
On 256 VQAv2 questions, feeding Mirage's structured output and full trace to text-only Qwen3-0.6B raised its score from 9.3 to 31.3 out of 100, without fine-tuning either model.

Palantir has very little to do with Hegel but tech CEOs like Karp love to invoke philosophy to aestheticize and sophisticate the much simpler and more vulgar projects that they are undertaking.
In Hegel’s ideal state, you wouldn’t need perpetual surveillance because members of the state would themselves identify with the state and would no sooner act against the state’s interests than their own, the two being convergent and continuous with one another.
In a confused, deracinated “civil society” in which neighbors do not speak the same language or share anything tangible in common, an external ‘state’ that stands apart from its individual members, replete with Flock cameras on every street corner, is required to keep people in tow, to instill obedience through a form of suspended terror and violence.

"Cognitive research suggests that because AI tools make tasks feel easier and enhance visible performance, users are often unable to accurately judge the true status of their own skills."
I see this a lot when teaching design students using AI.
