Once we adopt AI more imaginatively, the research frontier of mathematics will expand significantly. read the full deck here: teorth.github.io/tao-web/sli…

Coding agents are great at implementation, but still weak at software design. I still design the architecture, interfaces, and abstractions; the agent writes the code. Review AI-generated code before merging. Someone still has to maintain it—and that's probably you.

Unity had a chance to grow with researchers in ML simulation for computer vision and robotics. Restrictive licensing and lack of internal support led many to alternatives: Unreal Engine, Meta's aihabitat.org, Google DeepMind's open-sourced mujoco, and NVIDIA's Omniverse

I just had a realization probably many others had before me: it's time people start rewriting @chucknorris jokes with @davidgoggins instead

Conway’s Game of Life is Omniperiodic arxiv.org/abs/2312.02799 “In the theory of cellular automata, an oscillator is a pattern that repeats itself after a fixed number of generations; that number is called its period. A cellular automaton is called omniperiodic if there exist oscillators of all periods. At the turn of the millennium, only twelve oscillator periods remained to be found in Conway's Game of Life. The search has finally ended, with the discovery of oscillators having the final two periods, 19 and 41, proving that Life is omniperiodic. Besides filling in the missing periods, we give a detailed history of the omniperiodicity problem and the strategies used to solve it, summarising the work of a large number of people in the decades since the creation of Life.”

Gemini is a line of 3 AI models -- the largest one (Ultra) scores better than GPT-4V across a wide range of text & multimodal benchmarks. It is also the first model to outperform human experts on MMLU. The Pro version (smaller) is already available in Bard. Gemini Ultra will be available as an API early next year for developers and the enterprise market. Announcement: deepmind.google/technologies… Technical report: storage.googleapis.com/deepm…

chat gpt turned 1yo today. Trying to remember other technologies that got into my daily workflow within a year and a few that come to mind are not that close: keras, docker, tensorflow, pytorch all took longer. perhaps only copilot comes close.

imagine the plot twist if it was actually GPT5 that convinced reporters to publish the story or convinced the board to fire @sama and it was just running a test on some CI pipeline... sounds like the beginning of a post-apocalyptic sci-fi movie/novel
