I moved into non-clinical work a few years ago and I have enjoyed it. Most medical students I speak to have no idea how many careers their degree opens beyond the ward. Looking back, it would have been awesome if someone showcased these opportunities to us.

Rugeley Town: the car park carries a name from underground, the Lea Hall Miners' Welfare, the same coalfield seam that built the town and that the heritage boards up the line keep remembering. zurl.co/mE3La #PlatformBritain

Hednesford: two plaques by the road tell you the line I'd ridden all day was, in part, brought back, passenger services extended to Rugeley in 1997, the bridge reopened in 1993. zurl.co/0xhb5 #PlatformBritain

My medical school classmate and doctor is in need of urgent financial assistance.. This doctor has sacrificed a lot including joining the GMC register although still lives in Nigeria. Med Twitter and everyone else, please help in anyway that you can. No amount is too small. Thank you 🙏🏾

At Cannock, almost life-size photographs of Cannock Chase wildlife line the platform fence, deer, swans, a misty path. The gateway to the Chase brings the wild country right onto the platform. zurl.co/qV1kO #PlatformBritain

Landywood: two staggered platforms, the first time I'd seen that. A grey squirrel worked a nut on the fence, unbothered. For a moment the line belonged to it. zurl.co/9DhYY #PlatformBritain

Bloxwich North: the lamp post painted in the line's orange like a flagpole. I left the platform empty and came back to a fresh can left on the box marked Danger 230 Volts. It hadn't been there minutes earlier. zurl.co/1EUlY #PlatformBritain
