Ilhan Omar's birth year just became a BIG deal.
Her office says she was born Oct. 4, 1982.
But the Minnesota Legislature's library listed her as born in 1981.
So does the Library of Congress.
In 2019, her own staff called and asked the library to change it to 1982. The library's deputy director: "we do not have supporting documentation, as the information was self-reported."
Her spokeswoman says she has NO birth certificate and calls the 1981 dates clerical errors.
Why does one year matter?
Experts say it could decide whether she qualified for citizenship through her father.
And this week, federal prosecutors referred to her in a court filing as "Ilhan Nur Said Elmi."
The questions keep piling up.
Are answers just around the corner?
State Auditor @DianaDiZoglio: "Right now, they're blocking the audit of the legislature. They might be able to block me but that can't block all of us. That's why we need to go vote Yes on 1."
The overwhelming passage of the legislative audit ballot question in 2024 demonstrated that Massachusetts voters want more transparency from their state government. Question 1 represents another opportunity to move the Commonwealth in that direction by expanding the public records law, by making additional records of the Governor and Legislature subject to disclosure.
