Then again, why should a smart, beautiful boy pursue modest ambitions? (Michael Cunningham's "By Nightfall")
Maybe Leni should run again after all. Maybe Leni can do what no other PH politician in history has done before - win in a second bid for the presidency. This is the era of comebacks - and Lula and Trump are two sides of the same coin.
A country ‘brainwashed to need tagalog validation’ girl are you fr? Tagalog is literally the basis of OUR national language, which you also speak. It is OURS to use, develop, and love. Stop being so small-minded and regionalistic.
Replying to @redbtkn
For songs to be commercially successful, they have to be appealing to a country brainwashed to need tagalog validation... the bias with tagalog being a need gives people who write music in that language enough leverage commercially. Sorry 🤷♂️
This is actually outdated. Our new upper middle-income status corresponds to a higher poverty threshold of 8.3 USD per person per day. This is the threshold used by Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam.

The #DragRacePH snatch game was awful. Only Merckz was bearable. Not sure what the judges were seeing in Bhorj. I love Bomba and wish Taylor was in the bottom instead. Andy was trying too hard. This season is becoming a snooze fest fast. 🥱
The more successful ‘mass’ movements in recent PH history have tended to center on/need urban, liberal, and middle-class support - a demographic that is as fickle and transactional as they come. Political sentiment ebbs as soon as some sort of catharsis is achieved.
It’s really ironic that the true post-EDSA golden era was PNoy’s. Reviled by the left, right, and China for their own nefarious agendas, PNoy was the only one who made more sensible choices for social, environmental, and diplomatic strategy.
China appears to have discovered something about Ferdinand Marcos Jr.: His administration may condemn Beijing's provocations, but its preference for dialogue leaves questions about what consequences China actually faces.
The Department of Foreign Affairs summoned Chinese Ambassador Jing Quan over remarks suggesting China could easily defeat the Philippines. The move was a formal diplomatic protest, intended to register Manila's objections while preserving channels for dialogue.
Malacañang, however, had already signaled that Marcos did not favor declaring the ambassador persona non grata.
Barely a day later, the Chinese Embassy was publicly telling Filipino lawmakers, “You are now on the list,” while separately rebuking Sen. Risa Hontiveros for seeking the ambassador's expulsion.
Imagine that. A foreign mission, operating on Philippine soil, openly antagonizing elected officials of its host country even after its ambassador had been summoned over provocative remarks.
Marcos looks weak not because he prefers diplomacy, but because his restraint appears to have done little to discourage further provocations.
Dialogue is not weakness. Diplomacy requires patience, restraint and the willingness to keep communication open even with an adversary. But dialogue without credible consequences risks becoming an invitation to further disrespect.
A president need not threaten war, expel every offending diplomat or manufacture a crisis to demonstrate authority. He must, however, establish boundaries that foreign representatives understand they cannot cross without consequences.
Instead, Malacañang has publicly indicated what Marcos would prefer not to do, even as Beijing's representatives continue to challenge Philippine officials.
Power is not merely possessing the authority to act. It is making others believe you are prepared to exercise it when necessary.
And right now, Beijing appears to have little reason to believe that provoking Marcos will carry a meaningful diplomatic price. | CM

Meanwhile in the Philippines in this same time frame, GMA’s ‘strong republic’ was churning out nursing graduates to keep remittances flowing in as well as English-speaking graduates for a nascent, low-skilled BPO industry 😩
There will never be another one like him. I was shocked when Ru replaced him with Todrick.

Low-key, the Avatar franchise is actually a fairly good barometer for the dominant liberal socio-political mood when each series is written.

If we had converted at least just two or three of those nine silvers, we would’ve had our best Asiad ever since hosting it in 1954

This is a disaster for the human race and I’ve really lost patience with the useless morons who can’t see that. An AI video chat that passes for human has no necessary legitimate applications. It will be used to scam old people out of their life savings. Lonely, mentally vulnerable people are going to form romantic attachments to people who aren’t real. Isolation will increase. Mental illness will skyrocket even more than it already has. Kids in grade school will have AI boyfriends and girlfriends. All of this will happen. And worse things we can’t even conceive at this point. People are already forming unhealthy emotional attachments to text-based LLMs. Once there’s an audio and visual component, it’s over. Millions of brains will be broken irreparably.
The benefits of this technology, whatever they are exactly, are so vastly outweighed by the societal catastrophe it will cause, and is already causing, that you can’t even measure the two categories on the same scale. But at least this is the best thing that ever happened to third world scammers. So if you’re in that community, congratulations.
Introducing Griffin, the first model to pass the video Turing test.
48% of people who talked to it live thought it was a real human. Previous systems have had a pass rate <3%. It is #1 on NVIDIA's benchmark for full-duplex AI video.
It’s the first Human Interaction Model (HIM).
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The 48% figure and "video Turing test" claim are from Tavus's own study of 54 one-minute calls, not independently verified or using a standard protocol. Griffin-Lite leads NVIDIA's VideoFDB benchmark on their public leaderboard.

Two ASEAN countries in the Top 10, with Thailand with almost 4x as many golds as we have. And we’re supposed to be happy with this performance? Kala ko ba golden era ngayon ng PH sports??

When PNoy’s term ended, the country’s debt only amounted to P6.4 trillion, or roughly 62K per citizen.
This is now more than three times that amount - but life today is worse. Saan napunta lahat nang bagong debt na na-incur? Post-2016 our lives have rly gone downhill.
Mahigit 10 porsiyento ang itinaas ng utang ng Pilipinas nitong Agosto kung ikukumpara noong Disyembre 2025 na P17.71 trillion, batay sa datos ng Treasury.

WHY ARE WE SO QUICK TO ASSUME POOR PEOPLE WILL TAKE MORE THAN THEY NEED, BUT SO QUIET ABOUT THE PEOPLE AT THE TOP WHO HAVE ALREADY HOARDED MORE THAN ANYONE COULD EVER NEED?
We could’ve 12 or more continuous years of growth with a reform-minded Liberal Party-led government, who despite its flaws, spent the highest on social services, raised zero new taxes, and fought a bully, all while improving our international reputation
If we only add one more gold to this tally, this will be our worst finish in the Asiad in three editions, since 2014. I’m praying that’s not the case! Hoping for breakthrough golds in the second week 🙏
The Thais are having an incredible Asiad. Imagine owning the new games records for men’s 100m and 200m. They are a cut above the rest of Southeast Asia when it comes to track.
