At the checkout, buying diapers, toilet paper, apples, shampoo, and a family pack of chicken thighs. Cashier: "That comes to $420.69" Me: "Nice." Me, 10 minutes later: "Wait, what the fuck?"

Hey @nyrbclassics, I see you'll soon publish the first volume of Proust's In Search of Lost Time. Does this signal a larger plan to publish all volumes under the NYRB label?

Light pollution is closely linked to sleepless nights. Toronto, the fifth brightest city in the world, knows this well. To help some neighbourhoods wind down, we’re turning off the lights of the city’s most luminous billboards. #ChooseSnooze Zzz more at casper.com/lightsoff.
The most laughable part of this, once the frustration dies down, is that this is the Tim Hortons' position relative to the arch. Thank god they're so findable now!

Of course I signed! And you should too. @HunterAtHome I would add a second point that the entire #yegdt green space should be called Serenity Park. change.org/p/nathan-fillion-… – at Edmonton, Alberta

A question/plea for techies: does anybody know of a rock-solid option for syncing an Apple calendar to my Google calendar/Android? Feels like Apple changed their API in recent months to make it much more difficult. I could even do third party!

@YourFondestLove maybe you can help? This used to be super easy, but I'm finding that nothing is working anymore and I can't find anything online from within the last year or so.
A hilarious argument from the oil lobby. "How can you hate fossil fuels? They have significantly improved our interactions with animal poop!" You're a bold man for publishing this, @matlau10.

For those who want a laugh, or perhaps a lament for journalism because this made it to print: torontosun.com/opinion/colum…
The best part of this article on Keanu is that the oxford comma implies that Always Be My Maybe (which is great btw) is part of the @JohnWickMovie franchise, which I will gladly hold as the truth from this point forward.

"Man, gay people have gone too far with taking away all the things I hold near and dear, especially... *checks notes* ...rainbows."
Personally, I am beginning to mourn the loss of the rainbow. It has now completely become a signifier for LGBTQ, and will never again simply be "rainbow", the natural phenomenon. When I was a kid and drew a rainbow, it was just "a rainbow." For kids today, rainbows = LGBTQ.
Life beyond Earth. Most potential for humanity, least danger to humanity.
If you could discover/solve *just one* of these mysteries, which would it be? Explain why you made your choice in the comments! I know this isn't an easy question; even I don't know what I'd choose. Each has very different and important implications! But, that's why it's fun 🙂

Remember 50 years ago when the most powerful nations on Earth were dead focused on a race to recruit the finest scientists to explore the galaxy? And then there's today, in which those same nations are in a race for ... depleting and damaging resources buried underground? 😢

Centuries down the road, historians will look back on the latter half of the 20th century as one of humanity's most insane periods, when we abandoned space exploration for the military-industrial complex and fucking oil.
