Think the demand for payment actually worked in the filmmakers' favor. Fielder turns the situation into an “I’m not locked in here with you. You’re locked in here with me” deal. Exploits Billy's complete misunderstanding of leverage to get exactly where he wants to go.
Recognizing that a new film probes similar questions to older films is also not a sufficient critique. These questions are eternal, and there's plenty to explore in YCSE. These coworkers should talk! newyorker.com/magazine/2026/…

This question has long been settled and the movie correctly doesn’t take much interest in it.
There’s no honest reading of this movie or it’s marketing or any interviews that could lead you to believe it was about that.
the search and rescue industrial complex is about to be revolutionized
Purdue University's IDEAS Lab built an autonomous drone that tracks runners through dense forests completely without GPS or cloud networks.
By running 3D LiDAR mapping and obstacle-avoidance AI entirely on-chip, it can weave under tree canopies and predict target movement through blind spots in real time.
Massive implications for next-gen search & rescue and edge AI.

Guess it depends to what degree you view YCSE as an act of journalism. But that feels like the least rewarding way of engaging with it. Which may be why it’s such a hit with cinephiles and seems to bounce off people who want a more literal examination of Holmes
There's certainly a tendency among modern audiences to misread comedy, especially in older movies (the Music Box apologized for laughter during Blue Velvet a while back). That's not what's going on in You Can See Everything. Nonstop laughter totally justified.

This is true, and only made worse by Substack-style models that are driven by subscriptions to personalities rather than publications. And that’s the intent, the parasocial element is a feature, not a bug
