Today, the LHC receives the first stable beams of 2024 – a few short weeks after the first #BeamTime of the year and after several weeks of getting the #LHC ready for chapter three of #LHCRun3. While we appreciate the excitement for the solar eclipse next Monday, CERN’s accelerator complex moves on a different schedule than the geometry of the Universe.😉 Find out more: home.cern/news/news/accelera…

Our new paper presents a public approximate likelihood for the #XENON1T nuclear recoil search. With the public code you can recast the XENON1T limit for the recoil spectrum of your choice! paper: arxiv.org/pdf/2210.07231.pdf code: github.com/XENON1T/xenon1t_a…

40k cores @ MWT2 for @ATLASexperiment (greener=higher efficiency) - about half the size of the HLT farm but obviously doing very different things

A Russian soldier surrendered. Ukrainians gave him tea, food, and let him call his mother on video. I want to cry from how much I love my country.

When we launchd the @globus service, I asked for a ticker tracking MBs transferred. I remember the excitement when we got to 10PB. Today, I see close to 1.5 EB and a steady 15 GB/s (1 TB/minute, 1.4 PB/day). That's a lot of research data, hopefully going somewhere useful.

Our Israeli colleagues jumping in to welcome and wish good luck to the first Palestinian ATLAS group was just what I needed. You all made me hopeful and proud to be a scientist today. Thank you.

The CMS collaboration just completed the vote for the new spokesperson, starting in fall 2022. And the winner is... Patricia McBride from @fermilab! I'm really happy as Patty is a great leader. It's the first time @CMSExperiment has elected a woman as spokesperson btw 🥰👩‍🔬

What we experienced this morning is not who we are. We cannot let the actions of some destroy the fabric of our city and who we are as proud Chicagoans.

Here's a nice memorial piece on Jim that was written by his friends and @PhysicsIllinois colleagues including @GeorgeGollin, @topquark1, and @rwg: physics.illinois.edu/people/…

Definitely hitting the "I owe too many people work for things that I put off to finish other things that had deadlines but now those put off things are needed and I'm bad at this" hard this Monday. Apologies to everyone who has to work with me at the moment.

some of the work we did with @afortiorama , @ahcorporto is now coming in handy as we run @foldingathome w/ containers, GPUs, and @SingularityApp on the LHC computing infrastructure
Nice example of using technical skills to help with COVID19 without pretending to have domain expertise.
