The future of Seattle’s field needs to be grass. I’d be willing to have us in a dome if that’s what it takes. @vkhosla @nealkhosla
The potential perils of the rapid cleat-turf interaction on deceleration and lateral movement. @spikesonly
I’m giving the field the benefit of the doubt until we see reason not to, once the players are on it.
But I will present real photos I just took.

2nd Photo: A sample of the artificial turf plugs threaded into the field.

Raiders owner Mark Davis on grass in NFL stadiums:
"There was no way I was going to build the stadium or anything else to play on artificial turf. I just always felt that the safety issue, number one, and I grew up around football and the grass and mud and the smell of those uniforms after the game."

POWERFUL: #Bills star Josh Allen wants every #NFL stadium to switch from artificial turf to natural grass.
“I’ve gotten numerous burns on my legs from artificial turf that hurt to the point where I can’t sleep at night.”
“If I could snap my fingers and make every field grass, that’s what I would do.”

Cooper Kupp has been in this league long enough to know what he wants. And what’s possible. He knows #NFL billionaire owners are rich enough, technology is advanced enough, for all players on all teams to play all league games on what the sport was meant to be played on: real grass.

The FIFA World Cup Final may be over, but here’s a look back at what helped prepare the pitch for football’s biggest stage.
This photo was taken just 15 days after the stitching process at MetLife Stadium, showing how quickly the natural grass roots began intertwining with the synthetic fibers to create a reinforced rootzone. The stitching installation was carried out by our partners at SIS Pitches, one of the world’s leading specialists in hybrid turf systems.
That rapid integration is one of the greatest advantages of the stitching system.
As the roots grow around the fibers, they form a stronger underground structure that improves shear strength, increases resistance to divots, and helps the field withstand the demands of elite competition while maintaining the look and feel of natural grass.

The data on injuries doesn't lie. The injury gap between surfaces is overwhelmingly real, with all common lower-body injuries seeing a significant spike when athletes are forced to play on artificial turf. 🤕
The grass at this year's World Cup has traveled farther than some of the fans.
Half of this year's tournament stadiums were built with artificial turf for football, so FIFA had to bring in natural grass to transform them into soccer pitches. That meant growing custom hybrid grass on farms, trucking it hundreds of miles across multiple states, and maintaining it—sometimes under stadium roofs with artificial lights.
TIME senior sports correspondent Sean Gregory went behind the scenes at Los Angeles Stadium, to see what it takes to prepare one of the world's most important playing surfaces.

As Seattle prepared to host six matches during the FIFA World Cup, the stadium needed to undergo one of the most significant transformations in its history: replacing its signature turf surface with a FIFA-approved natural grass field.

The NFLPA is calling out team owners as stadiums swap out turf for grass for the World Cup.
As many players push for grass, the union says owners are doing "for soccer players what they refuse to do for NFL players."
So, if FIFA can do this for a month's worth of games, why can't @NFL owners do this for their players for the season? C'mon @LumenField and @Seahawks you can do better. @NFLPA

“Natural grass cools the environment while artificial turf retains heat and has been found to be up to 40%-70% hotter than natural grass.
This can lead to dangerous playing conditions for users of any age.”

"Artificial turf fields have become an expensive bandage for field mismanagement. Too often, municipalities invest in products instead of people, installing synthetic carpets rather than hiring trained sports field managers to properly maintain natural grass. But the long-term math is clear. Over its full life cycle, an artificial turf field typically costs at least twice as much as a well-managed grass field." jerseyvindicator.org/2026/04…
"I like to compare synthetic turf to a bad relationship . . . It gets dangerously hot, it’s toxic to everyone around me, it’s unsustainable . . . and it’s really hard to get rid of.” — Diana E. Conway, President, Safe Healthy Playing Fields, Inc. beyondplastics.org/fact-shee…
