What breaks our hearts is that road crashes have become a silent killer that we have learnt to normalize. According to the Annual Police Report 2025, road crashes claim an average of 15 people everyday in Uganda. These are not just statistics but bread winners, parents, school children/students, our brothers and sisters whose lives and dreams are cut short, families left mourning and devastated. Together we can raise our voices against this silent killer - road crashes. This is because we all use the road everyday, it makes us all potential road crashes victims Like, comment and repost against road crashes, for restoring sanity to our roads. #Roadsafety #Roadsafetyug #Saferoads #Saferoadusers @KwikirizaNova @kirya_ug @Kasuku256 @mkainerugaba @BalaamBarugahar @JuliusBaguma12 @bitekyerezomed1 @MoWT_Uganda @GovUganda @ROSACUg @RcMorningTide @BeepBeepUG @RoadSafetyNGOs @ebusxpress @SanlamAllianzUg @mtnug @Airtel_Ug @GCICUganda @UDLSOfficial @PoliceUg @M_Kananura @Bwaise_Terminal @uganda_drivers @MrDriveUganda @GiftGrace01 @AgoraCFR @SPA_AntiCorrupt @Prophet1Collins @assempebwa @Ssempijjastanle @HonByamukama @FredShaka @AbuMwesigwa @kasujja @nextmediaug @nilepostnews @Nabimara_Paul @ntv @ntvuganda @DailyMonitor @newvisionwire @SheilahGashumba @PAU_Uganda @CNOOCUgandaLtd @clarkson1958 @RctWakiso @Rotary @FrankGashumba @KCCAUG @KCCAED

Hon @HonKyeyune of kyotera, allegedly misled local residents by distributing free plates and saucepans for community events like weddings and funerals to secure their votes. During his campaigns he promised to use his ministerial influence to rehabilitate this road if elected. However, the road remains in deplorable condition, while he resides in Kampala, neglecting his constituency and indulging in a lavish lifestyle.

This is alarming! Sugarcane trucks operating at night without functional tail lights and reflectors are a serious road safety hazard. These trucks can be almost invisible to drivers approaching from behind, leaving little time to react. Most of them don’t have side mirrors. Authorities must enforce strict vehicle visibility standards, and truck operators must ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before every journey. No load is worth a life. @MoWT_Uganda @ainbyoo @HonByamukama @PoliceUg @M_Kananura @JuliusBaguma12
This incident happened yesterday in lugazi around midnight, a salon car knocked that sugarcane truck from behind, they tried to separate it but it failed.. The driver of the truck continued driving, the owner of the salon car survived but with serious inquiries..

Replying to @YyCoaches
@YyCoaches makes this place dangerous for road users because they park their buses and load along the road and sometimes do double parking leaving the road narrow and unsafe. #Roadsafety #Roadsafetyug #Saferoads #Saferoadusers @KCCAUG @PoliceUg @MoWT_Uganda @M_Kananura @KCCAED @ainbyoo

Six lives lost is way too many to lose in preventable crashes. Potholes and speeding are a deadly combination. We need safer roads, responsible drivers, and urgent road maintenance. No journey is worth a life! #RoadSafetyUg #SafeRoadsSaveLives @MoWT_Uganda @PoliceUg @ainbyoo @HonByamukama @JuliusBaguma12 @M_Kananura

The Directorate of Traffic & Road Safety continues to engage primary school pupils in promoting road safety and building a culture of responsible road use. Recently we visited Seeta UMEA Primary School & Seeta Church of Uganda Primary School. As part of the initiative, 40 child crash helmets were donated to the two schools with 20 helmets given to each school. We appreciate @VivoEnergyUg for its continued partnership & for donating the helmets to promote their use among children who commute on motorcycles. We remind all parents & guardians whose children travel on motorcycles to acquire & ensure the proper use of well-fitting crash helmets. Head injuries are a major cause of death and serious injury among motorcycle crash victims, making helmet use a critical life-saving measure. Protecting our children is a shared responsibility. Every journey must be a safe journey. @PoliceUg @mkituuma #ArriveAlive #Toffirakukkubo #RoadSafety #SafeKidsSafeFuture

This letter is a perfect example of why I insist that drivers should not be isolated and blamed as the sole cause of road crashes. Bus drivers in Uganda often operate under appalling conditions and are subjected to treatment that would be unacceptable in any profession. Even something as basic as obtaining driver badges, which are officially supposed to be free, has become a source of rent-seeking by some officials at the Ministry of Works and Transport. The process is arbitrary, subjective, and lacks transparency. Worse still, the country has virtually no meaningful capacity to train and professionalise bus and heavy goods vehicle drivers. There is effectively one recognised training school operated by @swrwug, creating conditions that can easily foster monopolies, gatekeeping, and unhealthy relationships between service providers and officials responsible for regulation. The treatment many drivers receive when processing these badges is often snobbish, dismissive, and unprofessional. Bus owners do not help matters either. Drivers are treated as disposable labour, shuffled from one company to another with little regard for their welfare, job security, or professional development. The Ministry demands letters of appointment, yet rarely follows up to ensure that the working conditions under which these drivers operate are safe, humane, and conducive to public safety. What makes this even more frustrating is that practical solutions have long existed. In 2019, I proposed the installation of On-Board Computers and the use of telematics across the bus fleet at a cost of less than UGX 3 billion to Government. The proposal was dismissed almost immediately. Yet these technologies would have enabled objective monitoring of driver behaviour, fatigue, speeding, working hours, vehicle performance, and compliance, replacing speculation with evidence. Bus drivers are entrusted with the lives of citizens every single day. Protecting those citizens means protecting the people behind the wheel as well. We cannot claim to be serious about road safety and focus only on punishment after crashes occur; it must address the conditions that contribute to those crashes in the first place. A mentally exhausted, stressed, overworked, or psychologically unstable driver cannot be expected to operate a bus safely and consistently. When the system fails the driver, the system ultimately fails the travelling public.

🚧 TRAFFIC UPDATE The Najjanankumbi–Busabala Roundabout on the Munyonyo Bypass has been temporarily removed. Road users can now proceed straight through this section. Please slow down, stay alert, follow all traffic signs and directions, and avoid sudden manoeuvres. Your safety and the safety of other road users comes first. Drive carefully and exercise extra caution as you approach and pass through the area. #MoWTUganda #RoadSafety

#ADDENDUM: CLARIFICATION ON SCHOOL VISITS TO UMA SHOW GROUNDS Our earlier message does NOT stop schools from attending the ongoing 32nd Uganda International Trade Fair at the UMA Show Grounds, Lugogo. The exhibition which is taking place from 2nd - 11th October, 2026, Schools have been cleared to attend. They are however reminded to strictly observe all traffic rules & regulations & comply with all requirements for the safe transportation of their learners. Our earlier message was intended to emphasize the need to prioritize the safety of learners as they travel to and from the exhibition.Schools are therefore encouraged to attend between 2nd - 11th October, 2026, but MUST ensure that safety comes first. @PoliceUg @mkituuma
PUBLIC INTERVENTION SAVES LIVES OF LUBIRI HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS We commend members of the public around Cornerstone Plaza, Rubaga, whose quick intervention helped save the lives of 73 Lubiri High School students travelling aboard bus UAQ 079W, belonging to Jeju Express Bus Company for a study tour at UMA–Lugogo. The bus reportedly lost control prompting the conductor to alert the public and together with members of the community they managed to bring it to a stop by throwing stones under it. Fortunately, no injuries were registered. Police responded immediately and found that the bus was carrying 73 students instead of 67, had an expired PSV licence, no @Educ_SportsUg clearance, no 3rd party insurance and had not been inspected by the @MoWT_Uganda The driver, conductor & patron have been detained to assist with investigations, while police are get a statement from the head teacher. We strongly caution all schools to comply with all requirements for school trips and student transportation, regardless of whether the journey is short or long. The safety of our children must always come before convenience. @PoliceUg @mkituuma

It’s very unfortunate that even after the tragedies that have happened in the past, schools are still not vigilant enough to ensure safety of pupils/students on the road. It’s also very unfortunate that vehicle inspection plants that Government invested a lot of money have also failed to achieve their goal of SAFE VEHICLES FOR A SAFE UGANDA. We exactly know what to go to prevent road tragedies from happening. It doesn’t need a lot of logic Well done @PoliceUg @M_Kananura for intercepting this vehicle before causing harm to road users. #Roadsafety #Roadsafetyug #Saferoads #Saferoadusers @MoWT_Uganda @ainbyoo @PoliceUg @M_Kananura @HonByamukama @HonWitonze @KamuntuProf @igp_ug1 @JuliusBaguma12 @mkainerugaba
More than 70 Lubiri High School students were safely evacuated after their bus reportedly lost control while descending Mengo Hill Road. Police said the bus was carrying 72 people—five above its authorised capacity of 67. The vehicle reportedly had an expired PSV licence, worn-out tyres and lacked the required trip documents. Three people have been arrested as investigations continue.

Some of my first assignments. We should be able to fix these small things. But let the motorists also be held responsible for knocking them. The CCTV team should always give us reports
BROKEN AND NEGLECTED Dear @HonByamukama, Thank you for the new energy you’ve brought into the roadworks. As you push for new roads to be constructed, kindly remind your teams to also step up efforts on maintenance. These crucial guard rails, signs and traffic lights at several junctions on the Kampala Northern Bypass have been broken and totally neglected for more than 6 months putting lives of road users at danger. Such simple and regular maintenance will go a long in making our roads safe. Thank you, #SafeRoadsSaveLives

A tragic reminder that no vehicle, including emergency and police vehicles, is above road safety rules. Overtaking must only be done when the road ahead is clearly safe and there is sufficient visibility and space. One risky manoeuvre can cost a life. Our condolences to the family and colleagues of the fallen officer. 🕊️ #RoadSafetyUG #RoadSafety #SafeSystem #Saferoads #Saferoadusers
🚨Breaking: A police patrol that was overtaking along Maya-Nakirebe masaka high way has caused a terrible accident leaving it's driver die on spot.

We strongly condemn such actions. Our roads are not racing tracks; they are shared spaces used by motorists, pedestrians, cyclists and other road users. Reckless driving puts innocent lives at risk. Let’s choose responsibility, patience and safety on every journey. These drivers should be brought to book for disciplinary action @PoliceUg @M_Kananura @KEE_UG #RoadSafety #Roadsafetyug #Saferoads #Saferoadusers @KEE_UG @PoliceUg @MoWT_Uganda @M_Kananura @ainbyoo @JuliusBaguma12
