Proud to share our newly published work exploring how physicians across Pakistan are approaching IBD care in the era of advanced therapies. This study included 99 physicians involved in IBD care and highlighted an important message: access to therapies is only one part of the equation. Training, exposure, and physician confidence matter too. Physicians with overseas training reported greater confidence in initiating biologic therapy for both ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, while greater therapeutic confidence was associated with earlier use of advanced treatment strategies. At the same time, challenges including infection screening, cost, and access continue to influence IBD care. As IBD becomes increasingly recognized across Pakistan and South Asia, we have an important opportunity to strengthen IBD focused education, mentorship, and training while working to improve access to effective therapies.
