It's the 222nd Anniversary of Sydney's Battle of Vinegar Hill. One of the uprising's Irish leaders was a misidentified man from Belfast who led a failed attack on Dundalk in 1798.
Here's a thread from when *those* were a thing in 2020!
In 2022 a few mastheads from @ACMVora ran a story claiming the Mandurama Reds stole the Blayney Citizens' Cup. A little time and research later, here's the evidence they didn't.
Some sporting / rugby league history for your Tuesday morning.

Piece in the Guardian today on Amy Levy. Amazing timing, our team here at @IslingtonMuseum have been working to preserve the graveyard she's buried in. There's a single open day left for the year, but there's only a few tickets left! shorturl.at/Uhoza
Undefeated. Meeting of the Blayney District Ruby League in April 1948. League is discussing rep team colours for a pre season match.
A Mr. Pannowitz clearly leaves the meeting to check on which colour of jersey he's got in the other room and makes the decision then and there.

First RL Ashes match at Wembley, a great result for Australia and a great day for rugby league.
Judging by the friends I made, I made my presence well known amongst the English. 🏉

The home of the O'Donovan family is being used as a polling station in Coolmoyne, Co Tipperary. Around 250 people are eligible to vote there and after they will be treated to a cup of tea, a slice of apple or rhubarb tart, or a scone | More: rte.ie/b/1540324

What did the peanut man of Highbury Corner have to do with Walter Sickert? At least one past Mayor of Islington knew.
I'm talking to the collection of oral histories at Islington Museum & Archives in our November lunchtime talk.

Northern Ireland, Glentoran, Man City afficiandos: @IslingtonMuseum has a signed copy of Peter Doherty's "Spotlight on Football" in our collection but we don't know why. Doherty never played for Arsenal & we can't find any connection to the Borough. Any ideas? Not our copy below.

Too much politics on the timeline, I'm still locating and supporting the improved digitsation of rugby league photos.
Mandurama Baby Reds and Lyndhurst Baby Blacks, 1925. Loving "Baby" as the name for misc. junior teams. Looks like faces from around 12-16 amongst these lads
Looks like a wonderful "pop up museum" event! Wish I could have been back in East Belfast for it, hope it does run again next year.

Last Wednesday and Thursday "All Things Glentoran" ran by brainchild Thomas Holland, put on a spectacular display of Glentoran memorabilia from years gone by at the Little Sanctuary Theatre.
There were hundreds of shirts, programmes, signed balls and much, much more on display for everyone to view before there was a podcast on each night hosted by Shout at the Oval.
On night 1 it was Colin Nixon and Paul Leeman, whilst night 2 was Barney Bowers and Jimmy Cleary. Absolute Glentoran royalty!
A fantastic night had by all and hopefully an annual event - congratulations to Thomas and all of those who had a hand in organising. A true celebration of this special club 👏
