I sat down yesterday in Carson City with Republican Congressman Mark Amodei to talk about why he didn't vote for David Flippo, the GOP nominee to replace him. "I don't think I've ever not voted for the Republican nominee." Until now.

“There are certain things that he would like me to remain quiet about.” A heated scene unfolded at the Cuyahoga County family court in Cleveland on Wednesday, as the key players in a bitter dispute that has grabbed national headlines assembled in one room. The case is one that Mother Jones reporter Abby Vesoulis has been covering for weeks: a custody fight over the two-year-old daughter of Rep. Max Miller (R-Ohio) and his ex-wife, Emily Moreno—whose father is Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio). Miller is currently defending himself against Emily's allegations that he held a gun to her head, shoved her against a wall, and threw scalding water at her—all of which he vehemently denies. Despite these allegations, and at least six Republican senators (including his former father-in-law) urging him to drop out, Miller is running for reelection and has vowed to stay in the race. The deadline to replace him on the ballot passed earlier this month. Abby got a rare chance to question Miller directly, just weeks after uncovering more than 2,000 pages of court and police records detailing the abuse allegations. Miller had initially declined to speak to the press after the hearing, referring all inquiries to his attorney. But while his lawyer was speaking, Miller interrupted to deliver what sounded like a veiled threat against Sen. Moreno. "I was a part of that family for a very long time," he said. "There are certain things that he would like me to remain quiet about, and I respectfully have... because that's not my business to share. But it's politically motivated." His lawyer went further, claiming Sen. Moreno "hates Max and wants to destroy Max" and only "came out of the woodwork" to attack Miller once reporters began asking why he had stayed silent about his daughter's allegations.

NEW video obtained by @abbyvesoulis brings you inside the room to show you exactly how Max Miller downplays his daughter's broken collarbone. And hear Emily Moreno in her own words describe Miller allegedly pulling a gun on her.

First interview I’ve seen with a released CECOT detainee. “We were kidnapped. We got a beating for breakfast. We got a beating for lunch. We got a beating for dinner.”

To find out more about the curious case of FBI chief Kash Patel receiving $25,000 from a Ukrainian-Russian-American filmmaker who was part of a Putin-financed propaganda operation, I knocked on the door of a house in Beverly Hills. Here's what happened.

A labor of love by @msjpauly and me, for @MotherJones: on trans rights under a Trump vs. Harris administration, the courts, the power of the presidential pulpit, and the "most anti-LGBTQ election since 2004." motherjones.com/politics/202…

This week for @MotherJones, I explain how the right could try to use manufactured betting odds to undermine a possible Harris victory. Basically, they’d try to make the Big Lie the Big Short. And it’s up to us to not buy into their bullshit:

No, you're not crazy. Donald Trump and his allies have been hitting new lows in the days leading up to the election with their rhetoric. It's racist and pointed fear-mongering, setting the stage for his supporters to feel emboldened in the coming days.

Conservative men are melting down over the idea that their wife might secretly vote for Harris. For @MotherJones, I explain this gross brand of sexism and how your wife’s secret ballot is not, in fact, “D-Day”:

As rates of domestic violence rise, federal funding for services is plummeting. Hotlines are on the brink of closing. Advocates are losing their jobs. Congress is sitting on a fix. And as one source says: "The consequence may be death." New @MotherJones: motherjones.com/politics/202…

the way they put “sexual activity” right across from “gangs” in the “hallway of desire” pretty much sums this program’s bonafides up 🙃😭
Florida’s public school sex-ed is very, very broken and a vision of what health education will look like under Project 2025. So for @MotherJones, I dove into one county’s curriculum — and it’s so much worse than you’d think:
