𝗭𝗜𝗖𝗧𝗔 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗼𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗭𝗲𝗱𝗠𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 The Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (@ZictaZM) has revoked @ZedMOfficial's network licence, effective September 15, 2026, citing persistent regulatory, operational and financial compliance failures. ZICTA said ZedMobile, which launched commercial operations in 2024, has consistently failed to meet key conditions attached to its licence. The regulator cited failures to meet required network roll-out and service obligations, prescribed coverage and quality-of-service requirements, as well as concerns over the company’s financial capacity to sustain operations. ZICTA issued ZedMobile with a notice of intention to cancel its licence on August 31, 2026. The company subsequently made representations to the Authority on September 10. However, following an assessment of the submissions and a technical review of ZedMobile’s current operational status, ZICTA said the representations were not satisfactory. The cancellation has been made under Section 18(1)(b) and (g) of the Information and Communication Technologies Act, Chapter 159 of the Laws of Zambia. With the licence cancelled, ZedMobile is no longer authorised to operate telecommunications services. ZICTA said it will also withdraw resources allocated to the operator, including numbering blocks and radio frequency spectrum, while pursuing outstanding regulatory fees and other liabilities. The Authority has also highlighted consumer protection as a key priority following the cancellation. ZICTA said it will work with relevant stakeholders to ensure consumer obligations are addressed, including facilitating refunds where applicable and managing outstanding liabilities. Further guidance on the process for affected consumers is expected to be communicated by the Authority.

Held under the theme “Innovation, Infrastructure & Africa’s Next Economy,” @AfricaTechXpo represents the evolution of Zambia Tech-Xpo into a broader continental platform, creating space for Africa’s technology ecosystem to connect, collaborate and explore new opportunities across borders. The event comes at a time when digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, fintech, connectivity and emerging technologies are increasingly shaping how African economies operate and grow. Africa Tech-Xpo will provide a platform for the people building these solutions to connect with those who can finance, deploy, regulate and scale them. The programme will explore some of the key issues shaping Africa’s digital future, including artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, fintech and digital financial services, digital infrastructure and connectivity, cybersecurity, e-commerce and digital trade, agritech, climate technology, mining and energy, digital skills, investment and the growth of startups. The event will also provide businesses with an opportunity to showcase their products and services, engage potential customers and partners, participate in industry discussions and position themselves within conversations around Africa’s next phase of economic growth. Africa Tech-Xpo builds on the foundation established by Zambia Tech-Xpo, which over the past four years attracted more than 4,000 delegates, 120 exhibitors and over 100 speakers. The evolution into Africa Tech-Xpo expands that platform to create stronger connections between Zambia and the wider African technology and business ecosystem. “Technology is no longer developing within national borders. The opportunities and challenges facing Africa’s digital economy are increasingly interconnected,” said Sandi Chimpala, CEO of Techtrends Zambia and organiser of Africa Tech-Xpo. “Africa Tech-Xpo is about creating a space where the people building Africa’s digital future can meet the people who can help finance, scale, regulate and deploy those solutions. The goal is to turn conversations into partnerships and ideas into opportunities.” The event is expected to attract CEOs and senior executives, technology and ICT leaders, banks and financial institutions, fintechs, startups, SMEs, investors, government representatives and policymakers, telecom operators, development organisations, technology professionals and innovators from Zambia and across Africa. For businesses and organisations looking to participate, Africa Tech-Xpo offers a range of opportunities including exhibition, speaking, sponsorship, partnerships, networking and technology showcases.
