I think the gunshots that struck Paul and Maggie in the lower part of their bodies was from Alex sitting in the golf cart. He ran out of bullets with the first gun then grabbed the other gun possibly already in the golf cart. Just a theory…

Alex was sitting in his golf cart when he shot Paul & Maggie. That explains why the injuries were so low to Paul’s body. The gun he used first, ran out of bullets so he grabbed the other one (that could have already been in the golf cart), & used that to kill Maggie.
