Among the biggest losers in this landslide so far: data centers, AI industry PAC recipients, and Elon Musk.

After spending $400 million to defeat the California billionaire tax—the largest sum ever spent by one side in a ballot initiative or midterm election—Silicon Valley billionaires have won this battle.
But they will lose this war.
It’s only a matter of time, and the Democratic wave may well accelerate this shift. 🧵

Prop 40 will likely come up short. Many who opposed it insist they’re for taxing billionaires more, just not this way. Thanks for saying so! We look forward to working with you on bold state & national proposals to unfuck the economy & take on the obscene concentration of wealth.

A few years ago, California joined antitrust regulators from across the country to prosecute Google for illegal monopolization, and multiple courts found Google guilty.
But courts didn't block Google from using its power to coerce consumers into using its products. Now, Google is blocking search unless schools use its AI. teapaw.org/DanaGoldstein/status/2…
Breaking: Google will turn off web search for schools that opt out of A.I. for kids.

Big Tech giants shouldn't be able to strong-arm schools, and they shouldn't use kids as subjects in their experiments.

Oligarchs in California spent $379 million against Prop 40, a 5% billionaire wealth tax, outraising supporters 250-1.
They’d rather poor kids die than pay a little more in taxes. Obscene.
California, send these oligarchs a message: Democracy is not for sale.
Vote for Prop 40.

AI will be the number one issue in 2028.
And anyone looking to OpenAI’s lobbyist for advice will lose.
SCOOP: OpenAI’s top lobbyist is circulating a memo to prospective 2028 candidates, pitching them on how to talk about AI.
Chris Lehane predicts AI will be the No. 1 issue in 2028.

I don’t know who needs to hear this: the legislature already has the ability to tax you with a 2/3 vote.
But yeah, believe the billionaires and vote against prop 40 because it taxes THEM. 🙄

Just last month, DoorDash couldn’t seem to find the money to pay their deliveristas — until our administration forced them to give back $131M+ in stolen wages and penalties.
This week, they’ve managed to find $17 billion to acquire one of their main competitors.
Corporate consolidation means higher prices, harsher exploitation, and greater economic inequality for New Yorkers.
We’ve stood up to these giants before. That doesn’t stop now.

DoorDash spent years stiffing workers but just coughed up $17 BILLION to buy a competitor.
If you can cut a check for $17 BILLION, you can afford to pay your workers a fair & living wage.
Meanwhile, Trump's FTC is silent as more & more mergers raise prices & hurt workers.

Dolores Huerta showed generations of women they had a place in this labor movement. She was our singular trailblazer and the shoulders on which we continue to stand. Rest in Peace and Power.
We support @The_AFM musicians fighting for consent, credit and compensation when their work is used for AI development and music generation. The future of music must belong to the people who make it. #HumanMadeHumanPaid
Not only does @amazon consistently lead the warehouse industry in workplace injuries, with injury rates roughly double the national average, and ranks among the top corporations that forces its workers to utilize Medicaid and food stamps due to poverty wages, Amazon is also now using AI to track workers and rank how likely they are to form unions. seiu.co/3Ub5soY

As voters across the United States cast ballots on November 3, Californians are weighing whether to approve a one-time 5% tax on the wealth of billionaires in the state.
The tax would apply to roughly 250 Californians who now hold an estimated $2.3 trillion in wealth. Supporters say the wealth tax could raise up to $100 billion, with about 90% going toward healthcare. The remaining funds would support education and food assistance programs.
