A new article in Telecom Ramblings explores why the wireless industry may be asking the wrong question. For years, each new generation of wireless was defined by a “killer app.” SMS for 2G. Mobile internet for 3G. The smartphone ecosystem for 4G. 5G has followed a different path. Its value is not concentrated in one breakthrough application, but distributed across a growing portfolio of commercially meaningful capabilities, including fixed wireless access, private networks, enterprise connectivity, wholesale services, and IoT. The 5G conversation often starts with speed. But for businesses, security and control are just as important.
