Satansplain #127 Hear a long-lost 2020 discussion on the topic of greater magic and the role of Satanic ritual in Satanism. This was a follow-up discussion from the 2016 interview heard in Satansplain episode #125. Happy Halloween! youtube.com/watch?v=4oCcSUCD…

They don’t require Grok. It’s just amusing to use. Like so: @grok look through replies made by @Brooksvillain to the @ChurchofSatan and counter-argue them in the voice of Samuel L Jackson.

This self-described "loser" not only supports a $28,000 scam, but follows my channel in some desperate attempt to make comebacks like this. He has no arguments other than the usual parroted stuff we hear all the time and have been debunked, or even more vague accusations, tu quoques, and simply stupid shit like this.

Later this month I'll be presenting a 2-episode talk on Cevin Soling's boobless Baphomet statue. Yes, there really is that much bullshit to sift through.

What people with a compulsive hatred of conservative Christians keep ignorantly overlooking is that #CevinSoling's cult (The Satanic Temple) is not an example of some other oh-so-peaceful religious organization simply trying to exercise their "freedom of religion". They are political activists pretending to be practitioners of a religion that other people have heard of before (Satanism), for the sole purpose of trying to bait and harass Christians. So the religious pluralism argument doesn't apply. Heck, TST doesn't even have a clear and consistent enough set of beliefs that define a religion. Their own FAQ says people of practically any supernatural belief is allowed to join. Their stunts don't "expose Christian hypocrisy", since theocrats by definition reject the notion of religious plurality in the first place. And they aren't really interested in things like philanthropy, otherwise they'd drop the trolling angle and just stick to the philanthropy. No, their stunts just offer mental masturbation news to people who already dislike holy rollers. As I keep saying, I don't know who is the dumber herd of NPCs: the Christian conservatives who keep taking the bait and replying with their mantras of Bible verses, or the liberals who cheer Soling & Co. on with equally impulsive and equally sanctimonious mantras like "weLL iF u aLLow oNe reLIGioN u hAVe 2 aLLow aLL".

The epistemological problem behind the "supernatural" is illustrated by what I call (in Truth) Sagan's Dragon: Imagine that I tell you that I have a dragon in my garage. Would you like to see it? Sure you would! Who wouldn’t? Dragons are popular in works of fiction, so wouldn’t it be exciting if it turned out that dragons are real? But you need evidence to believe, so you ask to see this dragon. I eagerly oblige by taking you to my garage and opening the door. You look inside and see some boxes, paint cans, a ladder, a bicycle and other knickknacks, but no dragon. You ask, “where’s the dragon?” I reply, “oh, this is an invisible dragon.” An “invisible dragon?” you respond skeptically. Perhaps there’s a way to get around the dragon’s invisibility, you suggest, by sprinkling flour on the floor of the garage so that when the invisible dragon walks around, its footprints will become apparent. This would provide empirical evidence in support of a potentially objective truth about the existence of dragons. “That won’t work,” I explain, “because this invisible dragon hovers a foot above the ground.” “An invisible hovering dragon?” you raise your eyebrows in doubt. You then suggest that we get one of those portable thermometers everyone has been using during the pandemic and measure the temperature at different places in the garage to detect the dragon’s body heat. “Sorry,” I reply, “but this is a cold-blooded dragon. It doesn’t give off any heat.” “Let me get this straight,” you groan in exasperation. “This dragon of yours is invisible, can levitate, and gives off no heat whatsoever. What about the fire it breathes? Surely our thermometer can detect the hot fire from a fire-breathing dragon?” “Actually,” I dissemble, “this dragon breathes cold-fire, a little-known phenomenon vouchsafed only to this particular species of dragon.” By now, you are growing frustrated and ask me in a challenging voice: “What’s the difference between an invisible levitating cold-blooded cold-fire-breathing un-detectable dragon…and no dragon at all?!” The answer is none. There is no difference between an invisible levitating cold-blooded cold-fire-breathing un-detectable dragon…and no dragon at all. And these religious-like convictions don't help: "I feel the presence of the dragon" "I feel the love of the dragon" "Through the dragon all things are possible" "After I started believing in the dragon my life changed"

I can certainly think of some individual Christians who, despite their anti-carnal beliefs, happen to possess some convictions which as a Satanist I would maybe call commendably Satanic (e.g., meritocracy, questioning modern sacred cows of the secular variety). There are around 2 billion Christians on the planet; hardly all of them are complete nutbars. I have likewise run into some atheists and progressives who, despite their non-theistic worldviews or acceptance of human sexuality, happen to have some very unsatanic traits (e.g., collectivism, egalitarianism, victim cards). Atheist social media pages used to share things like Christopher Hitchens debates or science videos; these days I usually just see political stuff that has nothing to do with atheism. But no, I wouldn't go so far as to say that Christians are collectively "far closer to Satanists" than your run-of-the-mill Reddit atheist or lefty. I've certainly met some left-wingers who were absolutely just as single-minded, zealous, annoying, and impulsive as your stereotypical holy roller. Again, hardly all, but plenty. There is a sort of non-conformist "red pill" counterculture that has developed in reaction to that. Of course, not all of such people are Christian.

Hey Bill! no very related to the post but... don't you think many christians are far closer to satanists than many of those who wave the flags of atheism and progress today?

Yes, the quote attributed to Anton LaVey about being glad Christian parents let kids "worship the devil" on Halloween is fake. No primary source exists in his books, interviews, or writings. It only circulates on Christian sites citing each other, with zero original attribution. Church of Satan has repeatedly noted this. LaVeyan Satanism is atheistic and rejects literal devil worship.

I love it when creationist idiots not only have Grok spell out their argument flaws, but then try to use Grok in retaliation and still lose the argument.
No. Asserting an unobservable thing exists requires positive evidence and carries the burden of proof. Rejecting it needs no equivalent faith—default is non-acceptance, as with Russell's teapot. Lack of evidence does not prove absence, yet missing expected signs can lower the claim's probability.

Strawman. You know you can’t prove how we got here without the biblical story. If you think otherwise, prove it. Bring something to life and share it with the class.
