i am generally anti-paywall, but over the past decade i’ve also been watching media companies (including behemoths like condé) attempt to find a business model that gets journalists paid. outside of more innovative subscription models, how should this be done?

tbh i think vogue runway getting a paywall became a huge obstacle on fashion enthusiasts. i would scroll hours looking at every collection and detail photo + reading each review… now it’s gone

genuine question! very pro-innovative subscription models, very pro-maybe-media-execs-shouldn’t-be-making-$300k+ but i digress. i think fashion enthusiasts should be able to enjoy things for free and i also think journalists should be paid well, these are not diametrical concepts

last thing i’ll say here but i think the worst (and most obvious) side effect of this phenomenon is that the people who suffer the most are a) the journalists producing great work and b) the readers who want to read it. the only people who benefit are media executives. anyways
