Grassroots football is not all about producing the next Premier League football player i can assure you it's a lot more important than that

Boyd is absolutely spot on , if you don’t have £40 per month you can’t pay for your child to join the local football team , it’s ridiculous, schools padlocking the Astro pitch to stop Wayne’s using it to

Almost all public facilities near me where the subject of a community asset transfer to a club post COVID So not only have costs gone up, you have to fund another club if you want to play there 🤷‍♂️

Love it - charge parents £4000 a week then nick the best kids for free and still parents fall for the propaganda 🤣🤣 “…Next Monday, during half-term, dozens of children will pack into Chelsea’s training ground. These players have not been selected. Rather, they will be at Cobham because their parents have paid for coaching. Each week at Chelsea, parents pay £120 an hour for children to receive one-on-one coaching. This is merely a glimpse of how clubs monetise parents. A two-week camp at Charterhouse School next summer, during which children train for up to 24 hours each week with Chelsea coaches, costs £4,700. Training is so bespoke that there are even goalkeeping camps…” telegraph.co.uk/football/202…

“Football today is a business, but it’s the only business that most of the employees eg the players are on more £money than their boss” that’s why they think they can put the boss under a bus

This is happening more and more and it’s mainly the private academies that are run as a business. Not the community ones that are non profit!

Any other grassroots clubs/teams relate to this below we can

Local school with 3G that we’ve used for 7 years had their pitch relayed this year with support from football foundation with their football policy being about community clubs using it. They’ve thrown a lot of clubs - including ours - off it now as they are prioritising one club.

It’s silly. I coach in grassroots and at the moment there is 2 artificial pitches for 30 teams in the area so nobody can get a slot. And what you can get is expensive. For an hours session it’s £120 on the local 4g

It really is unfortunate. It’s the same here in Toronto, where parents have to sacrifice financially now to have their kids play in sports.

Ban private paid "academies" from grassroots leagues, tax payer funded facilties should prioritise community clubs and paid development centres using EFL/PL clubs names should be banned from hiring these facilties too.

Simply not enough pitches for the number of youth teams and these facilities can basically charge what they like and get away with it

Let's build lots of 6G super duper artificial all weather surfaces but give them to local authorities and.. ahem "charities" to run who can charge what they like... Meanwhile lets stop maintaining public pitches & parks and get rid of all the old all-weather surfaces

£68 for 1/4 pitch in Liverpool, for an U12s team to train on. Played on same fields when I was a kid, the pitches then were all grass, permanent goals up and free to use.

In 1999, in exchange for government backing over the right of the Premier League to sell its broadcast rights collectively, the League promised to distribute 5% of its TV income to the grassroots game from 2001 season onwards however, this pledge continues to remain unfulfilled.
