Last week, I gave a talk called “Breaking the Boy Box -- Nurturing Healthier Versions of Masculinity” at @SHAPEAmerica's national convention. When I walked into this room and saw how big it was, I said "WHOA." Would that many people be interested in talking about boys? (1/10)

Good read about reading. The author is on point re: use & understanding research/science. IMO schools - esp international schools whose populations are wildly unique - need ed researchers to support learning seidenbergreading.net/2023/0…

Self-regulation teaching tip: Do a quick mindful check in by asking your students to pause for a moment & notice the sensations they feel in their bodies. Where do they feel tightness? Do their feet feel tingly? Do they feel warmth or coldness in their bodies? Then ask..

them how they are feeling. Doing this will help them connect to their sensations and in time to their emotions. Taken together, this will help them learn to self-regulate more effectively.

International schools have both the privilege and responsibility of supporting #TCK. Building systems that support the whole child is vital. #SEL #SELCoach

A great NYT article on mindfulness for children. I have it bookmarked and review it often. I think you might want to do this as well. #SEL #SELCoach nytimes.com/guides/well/mind…

I needed to write a technical manual for SpringMath. Instead, Paul & I wrote the more general MTSS mathematics book I actually wanted to write that also works as our manual. My favorites are Chapter 1 and Chapter 7 (implementation science). Free download: springmath.org/book

When yours or a student's thoughts are spiraling into anger, worries, etc. use the research-based tool of labeling the feeling. This actually helps regulate the emotion. An easy way to remember this trick is to call it “Name It to Tame It” (coined by Dr. Dan Siegel).

How can you keep important traditions while living abroad? Be flexible. You may not be able to find everything you normally use, have to change the timing or use technology to bring everyone together. Flexibility allows you to honor what matters and create new ways to celebrate.
