I’m really saddened to read the vile comments about Harry Kane’s wife. She’s not ‘a tub of lard’ by any stretch of the imagination. She’s a beautiful woman who is loved and respected by her husband and children. Some people are just utterly vile

Burnham’s building a coalition of voters for the forthcoming general election which includes benefit claimants, immigrants, and public sector workers. He’s using the budget to give many of those a 3.5% pay rise. Completely unsustainable and alarm clock Brits are paying for it.

What Britain needs is a Prime Minister who is in office for a purpose, not one who simply wants to hold the title of Prime Minister. That's why I supported Margaret Thatcher and that's why I back Nigel Farage @Nigel_Farage today! 🇬🇧
‘He comes across as a man pursuing a political career.’ Reform MP @AndrewRosindell doubts Andy Burnham’s motives, but @IainDale says other leaders are ‘no different’.

A Reform UK budget would cut waste and raise the tax free allowance to £15,000. John Healey will cut the cost of gherkins.

Well that's it confirmed then. Across the board, political observers and commentators are all now saying that there will be an early General Election in '27. So the November summit with the EU will now be the EU outlining the rejoin terms, for Labour to include in a manifesto.

We don't trust a @UKLabour commitment; we want to see hard cash. Any @UKLabour cheque for Defence inevitably bounces.
Clear evidence that the Chancellor’s pledge to lift defence spending to a new target of 3% of GDP by 2030 is now a firm commitment by Andy Burnham’s government ⬇️

Anyone @ITVNewsPolitics ….! @LewisJWarner Or are you just political activists happy to commit criminal offences to damage Refeom?
🚨 LIB DEM COUNCILLOR CHARGED WITH THREATS TO KILL Tim Caswell, 66.. a Bedford Borough councillor and speaker of the council has been charged with: 🚨 Making threats to kill. 🚨 Possessing an offensive weapon. 🚨 Threatening to damage or destroy property. Armed police responded to the incident in Bedford. Caswell has pleaded not guilty to all three charges, but has been remanded in custody. Remind me not to get vetting advice from the Lib Dems. 🥴

So... as expected, despite resigning as Defence Secretary because Starmer wouldn't commit to spending 3% of GDP on defence, John Healey is going to wait until next year to start funding our defences properly. He's a busted flush. #CareerBeforeCountry
Healey confirms he'll wait until next year's spending review - currently pencilled in for autumn - to set out details of how UK meets Nato target of 3.5% GDP on defence by 2035. Crucially, this will include confirming an interim date of 3% by 2030. Chancellor says he'll now focus on "getting there in a fiscally sustainable way". He accuses the Tories of "hollowing out" the armed forces - saying that his son, an army reservist, "came back four years ago from early training to say they had no kit and they had no bullets to fire".

These are the stats John Healey doesn’t want you to read. Unemployment will rise to 5% in 2027. The tax burden is going up AGAIN to the highest since WW2. By 2031 we’ll be spending £160bn/year on debt interest alone – up £36bn/year. Borrowing forecasts for the next 5 years have risen £65bn since March. Households will be worse off in every single year of the five-year forecast than they were in March. It’ll take until 2029 to get back to 2019 levels of prosperity. Growth will be abysmal. GDP per capita grows less than 1% in 2027. It’ll peak at less than 2% per year, despite the AI revolution. The national debt will stay above 95% of GDP. We are on a fiscal knife-edge. Britain is Broke. Britain needs Reform.

The Great Filter raises a terrifying question: If billions of habitable planets exist, why is the universe silent? The math says we should see signs of galactic empires. The silence suggests that advanced civilisations all hit an invisible wall and vanish. In 1996, economist Robin Hanson proposed the Great Filter - the idea that somewhere between lifeless matter and an interstellar civilisation, there is a barrier so difficult to cross that it eliminates almost all life. This concept has been used to explain why human efforts over almost a century have failed to find signs of intelligent life across the visible universe - known as the Fermi paradox - 'Where is everybody?' Looking back at the story so far, humanity has spent millennia crawling through the early stages of the Filter: the spark of single-celled life; the leap to complex multicellular organisms; then the rise of tool-using, intelligent toolmakers. If these evolutionary steps were the true Filter, we would be incredibly lucky. It means the barrier is behind us, and a vast, open cosmos is our birthright. But our current technological trajectory suggests a darker alternative. The Filter might lie right in front of us. As a civilisation's power grows exponentially, its margins for error shrink to zero. Nuclear fire, runaway AI, engineered pandemics or climate collapse - the tools of our advancement double as the architects of our extinction. Is this the crucible of the Final Human Story. The Great Filter dictates that any species reaching our level of technological adolescence must either rapidly achieve planetary maturity, or inevitably self-destruct. Our current global crises aren't just political or ecological; they could be the ultimate cosmic test. We are actively deciding whether humanity becomes a permanent fixture of the universe, or just another quiet layer of dust on one more lonely planet. The final chapter isn’t written yet. Recognising the Filter could be the first step to bypassing it. But by shifting our focus from short-term competition to long-term existential security, can we really beat the cosmic odds? It's unlikely that the universe is watching us. We will vanish in silence. (Final part of a 3-part series.)
