Warm thanks to @nelsongeorge for his kind words about the Soundies book. "Fascinating" and "useful" were pretty much what I was aiming for, and what these films so richly deserve. #blackfilm #blackmusic #americanmusic #blackhistory #BlackHistoryISAmericanHistory @sdelson

Holy cats! The Soundies book is #1 in Amazon's hot releases in music recording & sound--ahead of Bowie & the Stones. It won't last--ratings update hourly--but what a Xmas present. @sdelson @iupress #soundiesbook #amazonhot #beatingbowieforamoment

Almost sold out on Amazon! Hope the book is doing as well at indie bookstores stocking it around the country--like @HorizonBooks in Traverse City, @ElliottBayBooks in Seattle, and @dramabookshop in NYC. #indiebooks #blackfilm #blackfilmhistory @sdelson #1940s

One great thing about doing this book: learning about musicians I wouldn't have heard of otherwise, like harpist LaVilla Tullos. Filmed here with a prismatic lens, she's doing a boogie version of an old standard in the Soundie "Swanee Swing." More @ susandelson.com.

So exciting to see the page proofs! Especially the photos—new images taken directly from 2K transfers of the films. Thanks to Robert B. Silvers Foundation for support of the image production. @soundiesbook @susandelson @iupress @silversfound #blackfilmhistory #americanmusic

Page proofs for the book are overdue, for a sad & troubling reason--the design team's based in India, where that Covid variant is ripping through the population. Sending a donation to Oxfam now. #soundiesbook @susandelson @iupress #americanmusic #womenmusicians #blackfilmhistory

Can’t wait to see page proofs of the Soundies book, due this week. Celebrating with Anna Mae Winburn & the International Sweethearts of Rhythm, hottest all-woman big band of the 1940s, in one of their Soundies. @soundiesbook @iupress @sdelson #soundies #womenmusicians #bigbands

In the book, I write about musicians like Lynn Albritton, whose Soundies may be the only record of their art. See chapter 9, on Wartime Boogie Woogie. @sdelson @iupress #soundies #soundiesbook #blackhistory #blackfilmhistory #americanhistoryx #americanmusic #PopCulture #film

One of my favorite things to do in my job is helping authors with their online marketing. It was so much fun helping @sdelson with her new website for her @soundiesbook coming soon! 😀
Make sure to subscribe to her awesome email list as well!
