Huge news for Blackpool! We’ve officially been shortlisted as one of the final four places in the running to become UK City of Culture 2029!
For generations, Blackpool has known how to put on a show. From world-class events and our iconic Illuminations to our proud seaside heritage and local community arts, Blackpool has proudly entertained the nation. Now, we’re one step away from bringing a huge £10m celebration, new jobs and massive investment to our town.
We're up against Wrexham, Sheffield and Milton Keynes and the judges will be visiting us soon before making their final decision later this winter.
Nearly 30,000 of you have already backed our bid but we need the whole town behind us now!

See the Blackpool Illuminations up close with an open-top bus tour!
Launching for the first time last season, the tour lasts around 1-1.5 hours (traffic depending) and brings passengers right into the heart of more than a million lights before returning to the Tower.
Tours currently run at 20:00 from Tuesday – Sunday, plus 18:30 during October half-term.
📍 Tours depart from the northbound bus stop (FY1 5JA) opposite Spyglass

A spectacular drone show will illuminate the skies above Blackpool's Stanley Park on October 3 as part of a special anniversary weekend celebrating the park's 100th year.
The display will be created by Celestial, the company behind the viral drone show filmed at Stanley Park for Britain's Got Talent in 2025, and later seen by millions of viewers across the UK.
The drone show is the headline event of a special two-day centenary festival (2-3 October).
Across the weekend, you can expect:
🎪 An artisan market and family fairground rides
🎭 Live entertainment and activity sessions for all ages

Uk's oldest passenger funicular cliff railway is closed indefinitely after a specialist safety audit found severe corrosion and structural degradation in its tracks, passenger carriages & systems due to marine weather exposure. Repair costs are being reviewed by N. Yorks council
