why do we celebrate artistic freedom while insisting artists must create for personal fulfillment, as though ambition, money, or recognition make their work less authentic?
art is subjective. so is artistic motivation.
art for art's sake is a 191-year-old philosophy, not some universal truth. it's a relatively recent idea compared to the thousands of years artists have created for patronage, status, religion, and commerce.
one puts food on the table. the other sounds lovely in theory, but conveniently ignores the cost of living.
As someone who has stayed in their lane their entire art career aka created whatever the fuck I want , I often laugh at some the things that go on in this space.
The argument “art is subjective” is such a cope in this space to justify some of the bullshit that gets sold. Anyone can spend their money on anything they want, even ai slop but just because you pay for it and pay a good amount for it, it doesn’t make it good art.
I’ll even shoot a shot at myself, just because I’ve spent 5 + years on a piece now it doesn’t mean it’s good. I don’t want the time spent on the piece to be the thing that makes people think it’s amazing, I want people to take a deeper look at the intricacies, the colors and ideas that make the piece come together.
You know the saying money can’t un-lame you applies here to a certain degree. The truth is there is only a handful of collectors in this space who are actually patrons of the arts, who collect with good intentions & always look for the deeper meanings within the works. Most “collectors” in this space lack good taste & partly it’s not their fault since most started collection in 21. But you can tell who has taken the time to learn and who just thinks they can get away by buying the next hype thing.
At the end of the day as an artist you can complain or you can remind yourself why you even make art in the first place. Yes i understand it is the dream of most of us to be able to make a living making art but that ultimately should be a by product. First & foremost should be creating because it’s the thing that makes you happy, the thing that drives you to be a better human or simply because it’s the thing that keeps you alive & sane.
You are the driver of your destiny.

Thanks to @tonyherrera and @aventurine_eth for exhibiting onemillionedits.art at The Adobe Room in Marfa. If you aren’t careful or you might miss it, just like the project itself…

thinking about selling my vintage 1999 Pokémon card collection. 844 cards across base set, jungle, and fossil. never played, not a full set, not graded, estimated near mint condition.
includes 1 charizard, 1 venusaur, 1 mewtwo, 2 dragonite holos, 2 snorlax holos, and more.
$3,200 for the collection.
DM if interested. friends only. sorry, but if i don't know you, don't bother. if you're in the NYC area, even better. happy to show the collection in person. can share a card list if you're interested.
imagine if we judged you at work, the same way we judge an artist at work.
It’s becoming increasingly difficult to share AI creations without someone showing up to tell you that what you’re doing isn’t real art.
Sometimes I wonder if people realize there’s an actual human being behind those creations, spending hours imagining, experimenting, editing, and putting their creativity into making something worth sharing.
You don’t have to like AI art.
But why make someone feel bad for enjoying what they create?
stopped using PHP a few months ago. feel good about that decision now.
Effective Immediately, all organizations using PHP for their systems are advised to be prepared for an update addressing two critical vulnerabilities. PHP is widely used for web applications. These vulnerabilities often provide a direct path to the server's file system or database. If an immediate update is not feasible, it is recommend that organizations take the system offline until it can be fully mitigated. NSA will follow up shortly with more specific guidance.
tl:dr; build something meaningful, use social media to distribute it, and let attention and income follow.
so be an influencer. but call yourself an artisan. 🤔

Over the next decade, every Fortune 500 CEO is going to have to answer the question:
"How much stock/cash will your company be contributing to American savings accounts?"
A tidal wave has begun, and this is a much better solution to the wealth inequality problem than anything offering by the septum piercing people.

stormglass is a series of daily plates. 36-frame loops generated live from ethereum data (gas fees as weather, eth price as flood, moon/tide, peg glitches, ownership marks). same token looks different every day. buyer picks the next one. immutable contracts, cc0, no admin.
the art is sick. more of this 🫡🫡
