The last annual conference of @ICON__S in Dublin was my final one as co-chair of the Israeli Chapter @icon_il
alongside @Tamar_hos_bran, after six remarkable years. @adam_shinar will take over as co-chair, and I wish him every success and, hopefully, far fewer constitutional crises.
Over these six years, the Israeli Chapter has grown into the leading academic forum for public law in Israel, bringing together scholars, judges, practitioners, policymakers, and students during one of the most constitutionally turbulent periods in the country's history.
We organized annual conferences, workshops, lectures, and webinars, successfully navigating the COVID-19 pandemic by moving online before returning to large in-person events. Our recent conferences have attracted well over one hundred participants from nearly every Israeli law faculty.
Much of our work focused on Israel's constitutional challenges. We convened discussions on emergency powers, populism, judicial independence, constitutional reform, democratic resilience, religion and constitutionalism, and, since 2023, the judicial overhaul and its implications for Israeli democracy.
Another major achievement has been the development of the ICON-S Israel Blog into one of Israel's leading public law platforms. It publishes timely commentary, symposia, and peer-reviewed essays, has been cited by the Israeli Supreme Court, and is used in university teaching. As the blog expanded, we built an outstanding volunteer editorial team of six talented young scholars.
Supporting the next generation of academics was another priority. Through the Baruch Bracha Junior Scholars Prize, dedicated panels, and opportunities for early-career researchers, we sought to nurture new voices in public law.
Throughout these years, we also strengthened the Chapter's institutional foundations, expanded participation across Israeli academia, and maintained close ties with the global ICON•S community.
Looking back, I am proud that the Israeli Chapter became not only an academic association but also a vibrant intellectual home for constitutional scholarship and public debate at a pivotal moment in Israel's legal and democratic history.
I am glad and honored I had to chance to take a part in the leadership of the chapter during this period. I wish to thank members of the ICON•S Israel Advisory Board, to @gilastopler, who co-led the Israel Chapter with me during our first term; to our outstanding Secretary-General @Gonen_Ilan, and former Chapter Secretaries @Noa Kwartaz and @ezra_gadi; our blog editors @shahal123Av, @MatanelBareli, @AmirCahane, Anat Ovadia Rosner and @GalRosilio, and to our former Editors-in-Chief, Chagai Schlesinger and @edenla9. A very special thank you goes to @ShaniSchnitzer, our legendary Editor-in-Chief and Blog Manager from 2020 to 2023. A special thank you to my co-chair, Tamar Hostovsky Brandes, for a truly exceptional partnership.
I wish to thank the Co-Presidents of ICON•S Michaela Hailbronner and @sergioverdugor, and previous Presidents, @RichardAlbert and Rosalind Dixon, the Secretary-General Erin Delaney, @amalsethi, Evan Rosevear and @anna_pirri_ the deputies Secretary-General, @FrohlichJohanna and Vicente Benitez, the co-directors of chapter development, and the entire ICON•S leadership.
It’s wonderful to be part of such a terrific learned society with members from all around the globe, many of which also became family-like friends for life 🫶 🙏
