"Assuming Moore’s Law continues, within a few years, a model as capable as today’s leading LLM – let’s call it Opus – could run on a device you own. Within about a decade, the cost of training one from scratch would be affordable by an individual, and fine-tuning your own copy would cost far less...
...This kind of shrinkage should not surprise us. It seems insane that a multibillion-dollar data center occupying a vast brown field could be reduced to an orb that sits in your hand, but consider what has already happened inside your phone. Twenty-five years ago, the graphics chip alone in today’s iPhone would have filled a large room. Your phone’s AI chip would have required acres of computer cabinets. It is likely that the entire controversy around massive data centers disappears because they disappear; they were a temporary scaffolding needed for the first round of tech, just a blip in the history of technology."

Coinbase completed a sweep of our environment and has found no evidence of any exposed PHP instances. Whenever we hear about vulnerabilities like this we automatically conduct a full sweep to make sure everything is as safe as we can make it. We're also working with our third party suppliers for extra assurance.

the cryptocurrency nerds are rambling today about new psychotic best practices they expect every user to follow in the age of AI
this pisses me off to no end. i don’t understand why this industry chooses panic over empathy every single time
the threat is VERY REAL. but the solution is not to teach end users to become cryptography experts whenever a new threat appears (which will happen at least once per quarter from here on out)
the solution is to encourage end users to outsource asset security to trustworthy, proven third parties
ideally just use the ETFs. if not, use trustworthy custodians like Coinbase. if you ABSOLUTELY want to be a self-custody caveman while facing the threat of super intelligent adversaries, AT LEAST pay a 3rd party to implement best practices for you (like bitgo, casa, privy/fomo if you’re an “onchain” degen)
i tweeted about this months ago. enough with the technicalities that nobody understand. crypto users are no longer limited to 300 nerds on a mailing list. get people to safety and stop behaving like cavemen.
