Bending Spoons could run Apollo.io with 20 people, for $100m+ profit per year.
Yet Apollo has 800 employees and is likely break-even at best. WHY!??!
Because Apollo - like so many other SaaS companies - is stuck in the “Zombie Trap”.
What’s the Zombie Trap?
- A company raised $ XXX million during COVID/ZIRP
- The last round was a unicorn valuation at over 10x rev
- Growth slowed, whacked people, got to breakeven
- Valuations collapsed - ZoomInfo w/ 10x their rev now has lower market cap than Apollo’s last round
SO WHAT THE HELL IS APOLLO SUPPOSED TO DO???
Tim Zheng was so confused by what to do that he stepped down as CEO.
I don’t blame him.
The pickle Apollo is in is that they literally CAN’T do what they SHOULD do … Which is what Bending Spoons WILL do when they buy this company (and many others like them).
BENDING SPOONS PLAYBOOK FOR APOLLO:
1/ Reduce staff from 800 to 20 (yet ship features customers actually want FASTER)
2/ Go entirely PLG, focus on contact data, stop trying to be Clay
3/ Increase pricing sophistication to offset ENT rev collapse
4/ Crank 100+m profit/yr out of a great brand that’s lost its way
Once Bending Spoon CEO Luca Ferrari gets on a podcast and explains that he can actually run companies this way, it becomes obvious to the listener that the company should have done this on their own.
But they can’t.
Why?
BECAUSE VC’S WON’T LET THEM.
Founders sign up for a system where making $100m of profit per year is so far out of the range of acceptable outcomes that it’s not even a consideration.
Instead, Apollo, and other Zombies like them:
- Hire new leadership, many from companies than have actually been Spoon’d
- Myopically focus on the one company in their space with increasing valuation (in this case, Clay)
- Ferociously build to try to create a copycat value proposition (which dilutes their brand and confuses the shit out of customers and prospects)
- Aggressively market their “platform”, publicly making claims that they are not what 99.9% of their customers think they are (in this case, a contact data company)
- Pray that they will be as lucky as the few and far between who Salesforce acquires (like Qualified or Braze etc etc)
Meanwhile, I’m licking my chops.
Apollo is the undisputed leader in contact data for the segment we’re going after with MoltSets.com, and they have completely forgotten they sell contact data. Just look at their site.
It’s giving me the opportunity to hit THEIR market with a value prop VERY SIMILAR to the value prop that got them where they are today.
Which doesn’t resemble what they’re currently selling.
DATA IN '22:
ZoomInfo - $20k
Apollo - $99/m unlimited per seat
DATA IN '27:
ZoomInfo - $20k
Apollo - $99/m for 4000 credits per seat (shrinking by the month)
MoltSets - $27/m unlimited, unlimited seats
(Try MoltSets here for free: moltsets.com/)
YOU: Ok Adam, you have cheap data. I’m sure it’s shit!
ME: We’ve been rapidly improving our dataset as we hear customer feedback.
The biggest complaint were “stale profiles”, or verified/deliverable emails that were the last role...
That problem will be mostly solved 11/1, and by Jan 1 we will be refreshing profiles every 3days.
The insane thing?
Starting Dec 1, we’re going to re-validate all email addresses of 150m global contacts EVERY 7 DAYS.
MoltSets will be the highest quality B2B contact database in the world.
At $27/mo unlimited.
Where does that leave Apollo?
You tell me.

They Are Losing The Plot By The Minute:
They Keep Digging This Hole Deeper
The article then tells you they identified nine human beings by name including the nanny and "two close friends" from "sources close to the family."
Not the medical examiner. Not dental records. Not DNA. "Sources close to the family." That is journalism-school shorthand for a text message from a publicist. So the same media apparatus that insists a 500 mph fireball into the ground leaves nothing identifiable for the Trump shooter's body (had to be cremated no funeral, no photos) somehow expects us to believe nine passengers were positively identified and named within hours via friendly gossip.
"Identified" - The Word Doing All The Crime
The report says the passengers "have been identified." Notice what it doesn't say identified by the medical examiner, identified via DNA, identified from fingerprints, or identified by the county sheriff's office. No, the identification comes from "sources close to the family told TMZ."
Which is it, folks? Terminal debris field or next-day full passenger manifest with the nanny's name?
You can't have a "nose-dived at 500 mph" airline-grade incineration collapse and a tidy casualty list released by TMZ before the NTSB has even completed its party briefing. Pick a lane. Pick a planet, ideally.
Nobody. No M.E. statement. No DNA lab. No "remains were recovered and transported to" anything. No mention of how many fragments, no mention that the medical examiner requested family DNA samples, no mention of a dollar figure for the identification effort. Just... names, sourced from "sources close to the family."
That's not a casualty report. That's a cast list. If you can't tell me how a body was identified, you have not identified a body you have copied a name off a LinkedIn page and put a black border around it.
Then and this is the clown-car moment they tell you how much the plane cost. "$2 million." Because that's the detail a source-close-to-the-family would volunteer during the worst week of their lives. "Yes, my son-in-law and grandchildren are vaporized, but please note the aircraft was a depreciating asset in the low seven figures." Sure. And I'm the King of Norway.
The NTSB is the folks who will spend six months determining why a jet crashed. The medical examiner is the person who tells you who was in it. This article skipped both and went straight to TMZ, the official journal of "trust me bro."
Let's be precise about what this phrase actually means in modern media operations.
1. It means no primary document exists to back the claim no FAA records, no hospital release, no coroner's report.
2. It means the identification story is unassailable by verification, because you can't subpoena a "source."
3. It means the publication has pre-positioned a source to un-load a narrative, not investigate one.
And be honest how many times have we seen "sources close to the family" turn out to be a publicist, or a crisis PR firm, or in some cases the very people who staged the event? This is the same sourcing discipline that produced "smart, popular, athletic" biographies for every mass shooter whose life immediately fell apart under scrutiny. Lockstep templates. This isn't reporting it's casting.
THE TEXAS MULTIMILLIONAIRE PROBLEM
Adam Robinson, 44. "Texas multimillionaire tech entrepreneur." $2M Learjet 60. Nine people aboard his whole family, the nanny, two close friends.
All aboard one plane. All nine. Dead. And within hours: names, ages, biographies, and source-attributed grief.
For a "multimillionaire tech entrepreneur," the expected press footprint is enormous company name, stock ticker, investors, board statements, employees quoted, a "he was a visionary" LinkedIn obituary.
The article gives none of that. No company. No technology sector. No political donations. No philanthropic foundation. A "Texas multimillionaire tech entrepreneur" with zero verifiable public business footprint beyond a TMZ name-drop is not a description of a person it's a description of a placeholder character in an NTSB template.
And "close friends" two of them, unnamed? On a flight with a family and a nanny? Let's count the seats.
Did you know Adam Robinson has a profile on X? @RetentionAdam
Learjet 60 is a nine-passenger cabin with two crew. Nine passengers = maximum load. So the manifest is. Two crew (including the impossible 1,300-hour wunderkind), Adam, Helen, their kids, the nanny, two close friends.
That's a mathematically suspicious manifest the kind of manifest you write when you want the victim count to be high enough to be tragic but low enough that no one expects a long list of names.
They name the dead before confirming there are bodies. You cannot "identify" a passenger on a flight manifest and simultaneously have no recovered remains. The word "identified" is doing heavy, unearned lifting. What they mean is "we matched names to a manifest." That's not identification. That's a spreadsheet. Calling it identification is like calling a grocery list a bucket list.
What are we doing people?

Warning: To save money do NOT bring your phone with you into Walmart
Try the experiment that this guy did
He conclusively proved that Walmart is using adjustable pricing with they new electronic pricing system
It based on your phone pinging the price tags on the shelves
*Warning: some tough language*
This is an issue that both state and federal legislators need to look at
This is a conspiracy theory. I'm afraid that Trump's protection thought the jet was a threat so they may have shot it down even if by mistake.
Don't worry about the blackout rumors it's just rumors you don't have to stock up on supplies
