Note: defence spending is raised here. One thing Cdn govt has made no new promises on is defence spending.
Concerning: the first time NORAD has been mentioned and indicates a misunderstanding of the arrangement. NORAD is critical for our sovereignty.
However Canada neglected defence spending and NORAD at our peril. And now here we are.
The Biden administration and the Obama administration were also frustrated with Canada’s low defence spending and the Biden admin in particular was very annoyed that when we finally committed to more NORAD spending it was rushed, no clear source initially and stretched over 20 years with accrual accounting.
Before I was a journalist I spent years studying and writing about NORAD. Will do a more detailed thread in the future.
