5 months ago, I was learning Zig and wanted to use it specifically for CLI scripting.
But Zig felt too complex for something I wanted to do every time I built a CLI tool.
So I built Rune, a CLI scripting language.

Hello twitter, I’ve been going through a serious mental breakdown because I don’t get enough reach for any startup I build no matter how much I try
It’s been bothering me because I’m 18 and been doing this for years but still nothing tangible from any of it
Spent a lot of money, spent a lot of time, I don’t sleep, I don’t think straight.
But today I decided to reassure myself that there’s nothing to worry about, I’m just going to keep on showing as I said last two years

Am I the only one that isn’t a fan of Object oriented programming
Like even when it was taught in school, I’d always learn the concepts just to pass the course but never really used it

ok... uh so I'm making a game... it's like if GTA & Apple Maps v1 had a baby
And that baby was a custom built engine that streams in OpenMapTiles (plus some other public domain mapping data) to render the entire earth as a playable open world game
Engine is all C++ with Metal (and Vulcan) renderer - which means this thing runs on ALL Apple platforms... yes even that one (ok not the watch... yet)
Right now it's just a sandbox world. No "game" - just layers and layers of systems. Earth scale procedural weather systems (rain, storms, clouds, wind, KpI, tornadoes, hurricanes, etc) which means you can see them coming from the distance and travel across the landscape in a timelapse. And every building has a procedurally generated interior.
There's also tons of vehicles, skateboarding (with skateparks), snowboarding (with ski resorts & lifts)
Also a photography mode with all sorts of fun goodies
The whole thing is a bit mad. Work's been insane right now and I wind down before bed by going through all of the work Claude has done that day, playtesting, writing up new project plans, and then kicking off the next day's projects across my 3 Macs in my house wirring on this all day with Opus 5.5 (maybe save that explainer for another crazy person Twitter screed)
Anyway, curious what you think. Now I can post my little updates here instead of blowing up all my group chats with the weird ideas I'm trying next.

Cloudflare Paid plan is so cheap.
But, think again if you wanna use it with Next.js.
I warned.
Your .env file shouldn't live in DMs or on disk for that matter.
I built Envi:
envi run -- npm start
- secrets injected straight into your app. No .env file ever touches disk.
envi mod -> edit secrets in your terminal, pushed on save
envi pull / push -> sync a local copy when you need one
Open source. Free for solo devs. Cheap for teams
get started : envisecrets.com
Read docs: docs.envisecrets.com
Repo: github.com/shellhaki/envi
