🚨 Job vacancies have dropped to their lowest level in 12 years outside the pandemic.
Businesses can’t afford to hire, with 176,000 fewer jobs available than when Labour took office.
This is what happens when you attack employers, tax jobs, and put up red tape.

The world is becoming more dangerous.
We will always do what is necessary to keep our country safe.

“Why would anyone set up a business in this country right now?”
It’s becoming impossible to take risks, hire and build in Britain.
No wonder people are thinking twice.

Today, I’m setting out the most radical plans in a generation to make our country prosperous again. 🚀🇬🇧
We will get Britain building and scrap the red tape that is a drag anchor on our economy.

Step forward, Conservative Party Deputy Leader, Dr @alexburghart .

Our plan will get them to work instead.

Andy Burnham wants to take Britain back to the 1970s, a time of more government control, more trade union control and no economic growth. There is a reason our country took a different course after that decade.
Nothing Burnham announced today will do anything to fix Britain’s long-term problems. He had no plan to fix our stagnant economy. No plan to fund defence. No plan to sort out the spiralling welfare bill, beyond more government schemes.
His proposal to change the triple lock is already falling apart under scrutiny, and it won’t generate enough savings to fund a nationalised care system for another two decades, which means more tax rises are inevitable.
Britain does not need to recreate the politics of the 1970s. It needs a government prepared to take the difficult decisions, back those who work and build businesses, and look confidently to the future.

Don't let them pull the wool over your eyes.
This is just more borrowing, which means more debt, and more interest payments.
Labour can't be trusted with the economy or the public finances, because they don't understand either.

It’s falling apart already.
Labour say they will fund a VAT cut to energy bills by scrapping their proposed Digital ID cards.
But the cuts to the Digital ID card budget are not real because the money was never provided for in the first place. As the OBR stated in November last year the annual £600 million cost was unfunded as the government was relying on absorbing the provisional spend across departments without specifying where the savings would be made.
We are only one day in and already Labour are playing fast and loose with the public finances.
Labour should be doing what the Conservatives called for months ago – taking VAT off energy bills in a fully funded way by scrapping net zero subsidies.

Andy Burnham puts Angela Rayner back into the Housing Department after she was forced to resign for underpaying property tax.
The leader's changed, but it's the same old Labour Party.

🚨When asked about new taxes, Andy Burnham said “at some point that might be having to ask for a little more"🚨
Andy Burnham isn't even Prime Minister yet but he's already talking about raising your taxes AGAIN.
We are heading for another summer of chaos with Labour obsessing about who they can tax to pay for more benefits.
It doesn’t matter who is in charge, the problem is the Labour Party.

Rachel Reeves said growth was her ‘number one mission’. She has failed.
Two years of higher taxes have choked the economy, and now Andy Burnham wants even more taxes to pay for more benefits. Starmer and Reeves may be on their way out but the problem isn’t just the Chancellor. It’s the Labour Party. Different faces, same failed approach.

Paying tribute to Ann Widdecombe in the House today.
From her 25 years as an MP to her unforgettable turns on Strictly, she was always formidable, charming, and fiercely independent.
She never cared about what was fashionable—only what she believed.
She will be terribly missed.

Rachel Reeves’ legacy will be one of unforgivable profligacy.
She fiddled the fiscal rules so she could increase borrowing by a quarter of a TRILLION pounds across this parliament while claiming she is being responsible.
Debt is expected to rise every year of this parliament - what is responsible about that?
I spoke to @PhilAldrick about Labour’s addiction to debt 👇🏻

If you aren't working why can't you look after your own children? Why should working parents pay even higher taxes to fund free childcare for people on benefits?
