Victory in 2 min 51 secs! In this @StarCraft-esque demo from @hjing28, Mercury 3 quickly conquers GPT-6 Luna.
Our new model, Mercury 3, outperforms GPT-6 Luna and Claude Haiku 5.5 while running 4-8x faster at 1,000+ tokens per second. (🧵1/2)

Mark Peng from @Tiny_Fish in an interview with @_inception_ai's Emily Liu: “We’ve been running the latest Mercury 3 diffusion model through our most mature evaluation harness at TinyFish for the web agent and the results have been quite impressive.
In terms of task completion and success, it performs on par or better with Sonnet 5.5 from Anthropic and it clearly outperforms GPT Sol, and it does so at less than a tenth of the cost.”
Glad to partner with @_inception_ai for the Mercury 3 launch!
Impressive results in TinyFish’s web agent evaluations: frontier-level performance at less than a tenth of the cost. Looking forward to more collaborations ahead.

I'm BULLISH on @_inception_ai.
We ran Mercury 3 through our open-ended coding benchmarks. They're the only lab making serious progress at scaling diffusion architectures for difficult text and coding work. Their latest release, Mercury 3, is actually competitive and not far from the Pareto front, despite a paltry amount of funding compared to other neolabs - the only competitive dLLM in general text-based reasoning today.
Benchmark Results:
- The hype is real -- it's a competitive model at its price point. We ranked it slightly lower than its press release, roughly equivalent to GPT-5.6 Luna and Muse Spark 1.3 average across coding tasks due to some errors we discuss below.
- It uses more reasoning tokens on hard problems than I expected from a diffusion architecture, so its speed is not a huge differentiator over GPT-6-Luna or Haiku 5.5 (they may also be serving lower than advertised rates under launch day demand)
- BUT at its price it ends up being near the Pareto front, a few points behind Haiku 5.5 in performance at similar cost and speed, and closer to GPT-6-Luna in performance (while GPT-6-Luna is still cheaper in practice)
- The main issue is polish -- we recorded more errors than similarly priced autoregressive transformers for things like syntax and reaching output token limits without an answer.
Overall though, it's a dramatic improvement from the recent Mercury 2.5 model in a VERY short time, going from ~1 year behind the frontier to closely trailing GPT-6-Luna in a little over a month. They're serving at a price and speed that competes with the big boys without the same economies of scale. It absolutely proves the scalability of diffusion. BULLISH.
day 1 of Mercury 3 was wild. my inbox is full of rate limit requests, a few for numbers i had to read twice.
thank you to everyone hammering it right now. try a prompt/workflow you use every day and tell me what you notice: platform.inceptionlabs.ai

Could diffusion LLMs upend the AI industry?
I talked to @_inception_ai CEO @StefanoErmon about Mercury 3, which delivers faster, cheaper AI inference using a radically different architecture.
The implications go well beyond speed.

Mercury 3 is the first diffusion LLM we've tested with Parallel Search.
It's Pareto-optimal, delivering capable web research at a price similar to Claude Haiku 5.5, GPT-6 Luna, and DeepSeek V4.1 Flash (base).
Mercury 3 is live: the most capable diffusion LLM released to date.
It outperforms GPT-6 Luna and Claude Haiku 5.5 across a range of benchmarks while running at over 1,000 tokens per second.
More than 40x the size of Mercury 1, 3x more intelligent across standard benchmarks, and just as fast, with a 1M-token context window.
Available today on the Inception API, @baseten, and @OpenRouter .

1,000 tokens per second btw
Mercury 3 from @_inception_ai is live on AI Gateway at a 50% discount.
A high-throughput diffusion model with a 1M-token context window and support for tool calling and structured outputs.

diffusion LLMs, a timeline:
feb 2025: “cute demo but won’t scale”
feb 2026: “fast but not smart enough”
oct 2026: beats gpt 6 luna on swe-bench atlas, ifbench, and gpqa. 8x faster. 30% lower price 🤯

diffusion llms - ahead of its TIME
Excited to share that Mercury 2 is one of @TIME's Best Inventions of 2026.
Not long ago, diffusion LLMs were just a research idea. Now Mercury powers products people use every day.
Proud of the @_inception_ai team. Something bigger coming next week 👇🧵
Today was our biggest day ever. Jev had a whole launch day. We quietly grew 155%. #3 and climbing.

👁️ Mercury Decide now accepts image input, which opens it up to a much wider range of applications:

In the demo from @stefan_webb, Mercury Decide plays Ring King on NES, using Mercury Decide’s new vision capabilities to understand the state of the game and suggest the next action to take.
What about the other applications? (🧵 1/4)
. @yanismiraoui’s weekend project is now the #5 Decision Model on OpenRouter. Lots more to come!
Mercury 3 is almost done cooking. It's a LOT smarter and still runs at ~1,000 tokens/sec.
We’re bringing a few more teams into early access before launch. If you're building search, voice, coding, or support agents, DM or reach out [email protected]
turns out a lot of cracked people care about diffusion llms 🤓
