The “Trashing of Mike Smith” is an annual astronomical event that peaks every August, almost to the day.
No one knows what causes it, there’s no apparent reason for it, and so it remains as one of the biggest unsolved mysteries of the design community.
This says mostly what I can’t because I’ll just seem butt hurt. But this review read really badly. Just felt like I was reading from someone who had a personal vendetta against…a scheduling app? Because he hated scheduling???
The whole anti-AI thing doesn’t offend me as much any more because these folks clearly haven’t met a client in the past 3 years. Especially when you’re the studio that’s been at like the bleeding edge of it. People ask us to use it. It’s not weird any more. We try, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t.
The comments being like they delivered too much? Come on guys. Sure it’s a lot of brand assets but I’m not asking anyone to use them ALL AT ONCE. It’s just giving them options for the future. Can’t tell you how many clients are like shit all we have is a nice font and some quirky illustration. Not to mention we did hand off a like 200 page style guide on how to use everything.
Anyway, I am butt hurt about this review. Wish it was done by someone who had any idea what the current design industry looks like now.
Also love to get taken to task on AI by a dude that has black rock in his portfolio.
since a fuck ton of people dm on why lowercase writing & now some complaints on copying… lemme explain the my thesis on lowercase:
i have a deep disdain for capital letters because uniform text is cleaner, more elegant.. there is no arbitrary hierarchy, no forced structure disrupting the flow.
lowercase removes friction, lets ideas stand on their own. everything exists on the same plane, creating balance, visual harmony, & a kind of effortless cohesion. it also lets your brain process information faster ironically.
i’ve been writing this way since middle school, even in professional emails. when i worked in corporate i would send vp’s emails in all lowercase. people lose their minds over it, mistaking it for laziness when it’s actually a deliberate considered choice. ppl’s frustration only proves the point… which is how fragile their attachment to meaningless formality really is. also sama didn’t invent lowercase writing just like he didn’t invent the transformer.
lowercase is better.

Can’t wait to see what @native inevitably lands on @spottedinprod with next.
after 6 years of building and designing, i'm closing my beautiful chapter with @thecosmos.
watching what began as a small idea grow into what cosmos is today has been one of the most meaningful and fulfilling journeys i've experienced.
none of this would've been possible without @9th, and i can't imagine anyone better to carry it forward.
time to build something new 🌻

Sony is so ridiculously OP with logos that even individual features have a mark (MegaBass, SurroundSound, Hifi, SACD, etc.). Need to write a post about it one day.
Only @Sony would name a digital clock radio “Tomato” or create a portable radio-recorder-TV in 1978, call it “Jackal 300” and see their branding designers pull off these bangers.
What are we even doing?
