That divergence is worth watching. It'll be interesting to see whether BTC keeps holding up if equities remain under pressure

😂E-balcão – Episode: “JPEG-gate and the Phantom Power of Attorney” Look, I’ve been chatting with the Autoridade Tributária’s famous E-Balcão for years. It’s like online therapy for your tax problems: you type your question, some civil servant on the other side types back, and usually it works fine. You get your answers, life goes on. But … last week we hit rock bottom. This was not “fine”. This was a masterclass in bureaucratic comedy. I’m requesting NIFs (fiscal numbers) for clients for over a decade. Normally? Two days, boom, done. Smooth as butter. This time? Five working days of silence. Then the messages start rolling in like a bad sitcom with no laugh track. Round 1: AT: “We can’t read JPEG files. Please convert everything to PDF.” Me: …JPEGs? The format we’ve been sending since before Zoom was invented? Suddenly forbidden? Did they upgrade to Windows 95? Fine. Converted. Resent. Round 2: AT: “The Power of Attorney is missing.” Me: It’s literally the third file, named “Power_of_Attorney_Client_X.pdf”. Bold title, big font. Still, I attach it again, just in case they’re playing hide-and-seek. Round 3: AT: “Proof of address is missing.” Me: It’s right there. Driver’s license clearly states the address. Maybe they need it in Comic Sans? Round 4: AT: “The proof of address is not in PDF.” Me: [staring at the PDF I just opened myself] …It literally is. Are we looking at the same files? Or did you open someone else’s divorce papers by mistake? Round 5: AT: “The Power of Attorney needs to be notarised.” Me: [zooms in on the giant notary stamp the size of a dinner plate] …It has more stamps than a tourist passport. My solicitor basically turned it into modern art. Round 6 the finale: AT: “The acceptance of the fiscal representative does NOT replace the Power of Attorney.” Me: Correct! That’s why I sent BOTH! I’m not trying to speedrun bureaucracy; I’m following the rules! At this point the person is clearly on their first week, copy-pasting the same questions like a broken chatbot. I politely ask: “Can we please escalate to a supervisor?” No reply. Just more loops. So I did what any sane person would do: I rage-cancelled the request, opened a brand-new one… and 48 hours later, a competent human being looks at the exact same files and goes: “All good. Here’s your NIF. Moral of the story? E-Balcão is great… when you get someone who has actually read the manual. Otherwise, it’s just expensive performance art titled “How Many Times Can We Ask About the Same PDF?”Thank you, E-Balcão.

⚡️Tokenized securities (such as tokenized stocks or ETFs) are classified as conventional financial assets rather than crypto assets under Portuguese tax law. As a result, the 365-day tax exemption exclusive to cryptocurrencies does not apply. Instead, gains on tokenized stocks are treated as Category G (capital gains) securities and taxed according to their holding period: ❌ Held Less Than 1 Year Standard Rate: Short-term gains are subject to a flat 28% rate by default. Optional Aggregation: You may voluntarily choose to aggregate (englobar) these gains with your general income to be taxed at progressive IRS rates (which can be advantageous if your total marginal rate is below 28%). Mandatory Aggregation: If your total taxable income (including short-term capital gains) reaches the top tax bracket €86,634 (for 2026), aggregation becomes mandatory. In this scenario, gains on short-term assets are aggregated and taxed at the top progressive rate of 48% (plus any applicable solidarity surcharge). ✅ Held More Than 1 Year Flat Rate Exemption: Long-term gains are taxed at the default flat rate of 28% and are exempt from mandatory aggregation, regardless of whether your total income exceeds €86,634. Holding-Period Tax Discounts: Under Article 43(5) of the CIRS, longer holding periods qualify for partial exclusions from your taxable base: - 2 to 5 years: 10% of the gain is tax-exempt (taxable base reduces to 90%). - 5 to 8 years: 20% of the gain is tax-exempt (taxable base reduces to 80%). -More than 8 years: 30% of the gain is tax-exempt (taxable base reduces to 70%). See image below⬇️
⚡️The Tokenized Stock Regulation Tax Misconception 🇪🇺 Thinking tokenized stocks fall under MiCA and/or DAC8 tax reporting in Europe? Think again! ❌ MiCA explicitly excludes assets that qualify as financial instruments. Because a stock is a transferable security, putting it on a blockchain doesn't change its legal nature, it’s governed by MiFID II, the EU Prospectus Regulation, and the DLT Pilot Regime. And for tax reporting? Tokenized stocks fall under traditional DAC2 / CRS rules, so not DAC8, which mirrors MiCA's scope. If you want to issue, trade, or report tokenized equities in the EU, traditional financial rules apply! This means that any capital gains realised with tokenized stocks are taxed identical to real stocks🏛️ ❌Which means the 365-day rule will not apply

💡What High-Net-Worth Individuals Taught Me About Real Wealth One of the most interesting parts of my work is that I regularly interact with high-net-worth individuals (10 million+ in net worth). Over time, it has completely shifted my perspective on what real wealth actually looks like. Here are some of the biggest differences I’ve observed: ❌Poor mindset: Lives for the “show”, posting the lifestyle, flexing the new Rolex, the luxury car, or the latest designer clothes. Let´s be honest, most of what we see on social media are rentals... ✅Rich mindset: Prioritizes privacy. The less visible, the better. ❌Poor mindset: Spends money to impress others. ✅Rich mindset: Spends money on what’s practical and useful. They often dress and drive very average because they have zero interest in attracting attention. ❌Poor mindset: Hesitates or tries to save when hiring qualified professionals, accountants, lawyers, or advisors. ✅Rich mindset: Always goes for the best quality, regardless of the price. They deeply understand the long-term value of surrounding themselves with top-tier expertise. Also spends on services that save time. ❌Poor mindset: When meeting friends, the conversation revolves around girls, parties, and recent trips. ✅Rich mindset: The conversation quickly turns to finance, investments, business opportunities, and wealth-building strategies. True wealth isn’t loud. It’s quiet, intentional, and focused on value, privacy, and growth. The biggest lesson for me? Your habits, your circle, and how you spend (or don’t spend) say far more about your financial future than your current bank balance ever will.
