It was incredible to think of the rich Fenian history of the Barracks while walking the grounds afterwards - In 1866 when John Devoy and others devised a plan to seize Dublin, they anticipated a central role for the Irish soldiers serving here, particularly in the 61st Regiment

From 2029, children in Northern Ireland’s schools will have access to three languages @CCEA_info French, Irish and Spanish. By contrast, children in the Republic of Ireland can study one of sixteen curricular languages up to Leaving Cert at age 18. Let that sink in @paulgivan

160 years ago this summer, a group of Black American Civil War veterans gathered in New York's Washington Square Park to offer their services to the cause of Irish freedom - their story is recalled in my 'From the Square' blog for @NYUpress nyupress.org/blog/2026/07/20…

No primary languages. What a missed opportunity to actually TransformED. Northern Ireland remains the only country in the landmass of Europe where all children do not have a right to learn a second language. Shameful.
🚀 TransformED | Curriculum Launch Education Minister Paul Givan takes to the stage at the launch of the new Northern Ireland curriculum. The Minister highlights key elements of the new curriculum and what this means for the future of education in Northern Ireland. #TransformED
