I look forward to participating in this exciting workshop at the Université de Lorraine this coming Friday, with what will essentially be my first paper presentation in French 😬. Thanks to Cristina Diego Pacheco for the invitation!

Dear All,
I am thrilled to announce the launch of a new book series entitled Routledge Studies in Cultural Production in the Middle East and North Africa. Below is a brief description of the series, and I’m more than happy to share materials with anyone who is interested. Please feel free to share, circulate, and consider publishing in the series.
Routledge Studies in Cultural Production in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA)
This series is devoted to cultural production in the Middle East and North Africa [MENA] and is intended to focus on cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research. It aims to publish scholarship that will engage with indigenous theoretical frameworks and challenge Eurocentric tools and approaches in order to decenter the dominant perspective against which scholarship has thus far been assessed. Books to be included will address a variety of important topics, including, for example, the processes of creating cultural artefacts; the legal, political, and economic governance of cultural production; power/domination, class/cultural production; production/circulation/consumption; trajectories/ forces/ consequences of cultural production, etc.
Please contact Jonas Elbousty, Series Editor, at [email protected] and Joe Whiting, Commissioning Editor in Middle East Studies at Routledge, at [email protected].

I’m thrilled that my book, "On Earth or in Poems: The Many Lives of al-Andalus," has received honorable mention for the MLA’s Aldo and Jeanne Scaglione Prize for Comparative Literary Studies. Huge thanks to the committee for this honor, and congratulations to the other awardees.

I'm sitting on some spare copies of my first book, "Colonial al-Andalus" (@Harvard_Press), and I'd like to find a good home for them. If you'd like one (especially if you're a grad student or junior scholar), please DM me, and I can mail the book to you.
I had a great time last Monday presenting at the Centre for South Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at Urbana-Champaign, and discussing aspects of my work with students and colleagues. Thank you, once again, @eric_calderwood for the invitation and the wonderful hosting!
On Monday 18th November I'll be talking about my forthcoming book on music and race in colonial Morocco, at the Centre for South Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Join if you're in the area!
