Book 46 of 2026
I loved the concept and the ending! The absolute joy of seeing an Indigenous language show up the colonizers. Yes, the messaging isn’t subtle, but why should it be?

I read this novella in one go this morning. It’s not even 9am. Go buy it.
May the love between the sisters be the love my children have for one another.
ALT The River has Roots by Amal El-Mohtar
Book 44 of 2026
I love Kingsolver, but I just can’t when a woman breaks herself over love of a man. He’s not worth it, honey. They never are.
The musical accompaniment is phenomenal. They should make a QR code to a playlist in the next edition to make finding the pieces easier.
ALT Partita by Barbara Kingsolver
Book 43 of 2026
Loved this book. 10/10, no notes. Everyone is a terrible person. Just because the extremely unlikable (and general all-around bad person) narrator hates someone doesn’t make them good. They’re literally all flawed.
Amazing.
ALT Yesteryear but Caro Claire Burke
Book 42 of 2026
This storytelling felt very different to anything I’ve read before, which I very much enjoyed! It shares the short stories that fit together/reference each other format of How High We Go in the Dark.
ALT These Memories Do Not Belong to Us by Yiming Ma
Book 41 of 2026
Turns out I am, unsurprisingly, the correct audience for a book about an autistic woman. Just devoured it in under three hours.

Book 40 of 2026
Theoretically, I should be the audience for this book. I love lit fic, am dipping my toes into horror, read German, and am not entirely unfamiliar with Thomas Mann.
I was not the audience.

Book 39 of 2026
I prefer Mexican Gothic, which makes me unreasonably happy because it means that there’s enough (not in total, but for this) gothic horror set in historic Mexico being published for me to have a preference.
Publish more diverse books!
ALT The Hacienda by Isabel Cañas
Book 38 of 2026
Cozy. Contains cats. Really lovely writing that perfectly matches the historic second world the book is set in.
Devoured it in a day 😅
ALT Agnes Aubert’s Mystical Cat Shelter by Heather Fawcett
Book 37 of 2026
Some of it just felt…wrong? The Dutch MC wishes she were short like her sister? Because Dutch women are known for being short…?
I lose trust in a story when the author makes assertions that feel objectively false—at least, without an interesting justification🤷♀️
