pansin ko sa mcd0, catered sa mga tao yung menu. sa ibang bansa, wala silang ala king pero tayo meron. one time may rose-flavored sundae pa akong na-try.
cant say the same sa jollibee 😭 mas maganda treatment at menu overseas (pero I've heard minsan magkakaiba ng timpla lol)

bilangin niyo lahat ng gastos sa tax hanggang sentimo. marerealize niyo na sobrang baba ng kalidad ng buhay rito kahit sobrang taas ng tax 😭
saw one of the shops i used to buy from is closing, and it made me reflect on how much the kpop market in the PH has changed over the years
10 years ago, kpop albums in the PH BNS market used to cost around ₱700 or more, and shipping fees weren't exactly budget-friendly either
being a fan who couldn't always afford to buy albums, i remember how much of a luxury it felt like to own one
now, you can find sealed albums for as low as ₱100 and shipping has become so much more accessible. as a fan, there's a part of me that feels nostalgic and genuinely happy about this
my inner child, who used to wish she could afford more albums, finally gets to experience the joy of buying her ults' albums without having to think about it as much. things that used to feel so out of reach are now things i can actually enjoy and collect
but as someone who has also been on the seller side, it's bittersweet to witness this change
while albums have become more affordable and accessible for buyers, a lot of local shops are struggling, and so many are slowly closing down. the same market that once gave small sellers the opportunity to share their love for kpop while running a business has become increasingly difficult to survive in
it's hard to compete when overseas sellers can offer prices that local sellers simply cannot match, especially when local sellers have to account for taxes, shipping, customs, and other operating expenses just to keep their shops running
who do we even blame for this?
can we blame buyers for choosing cheaper options when everyone is trying to save money? can we blame overseas sellers for offering prices that attract more customers? can we blame local sellers for struggling to keep their businesses afloat when the costs of running one keep piling up? or is this simply what happens when the market changes and small businesses are left trying to keep up?
i don't think there's one straightforward answer. i understand why buyers choose the more affordable option. as someone who once couldn't afford albums, i know how exciting it is to finally have access to things you used to only dream of buying
at the same time, i also understand the heartbreak of being a seller and realizing that no matter how much you want to keep your shop alive, there are limits to how low you can price your items without eventually hurting your own business
it's a strange feeling to be happy that something you once loved has become more accessible, while also mourning the loss of the small shops that were part of your journey as a fan
i don't want to romanticize the past, because albums being more affordable now is a good thing for fans. i know what it's like to want an album so badly but not have the budget for it
but i also don't want us to overlook the reality that local sellers are facing. and honestly, it's not just about kpop anymore. small businesses across different industries are facing similar struggles, trying to keep up with rising costs while competing with prices they simply cannot afford to match
accessibility for buyers shouldn't have to mean the disappearance of small businesses, either
maybe that's what makes this so bittersweet. we finally get to enjoy the things our younger selves couldn't afford, but the people and shops that were once part of that journey are finding it harder to stay
