Every player needs to be coached differently. Knowing how close Mike Sullivan and John Tortorella are, and that Torts coached Dorofeyev last year — I asked #NYR Sullivan if they have spoken about coaching Dorofeyev. This is my favorite response since working with him: “Yeah, I’ve talked to Torts multiple times actually about Pav — and he’s tried to offer me some insight on some of the things that he did when he was coaching him that he felt helped, helped Pav move in the right direction, and so I’m trying to utilize some of that or some of those insights. And it’s a work in progress, you know my experience once again has been when a player changes teams like that, signs a fairly decent contract — sometimes there’s a little bit of an adjustment process that players go through. That’s just been my experience. I think Pav is going through that process with us right now, trying to figure out — we’re a different team than what he was on, and he’s playing with different players and okay, how do I assimilate into this group? You know and try to contribute in a way that can help us have success. And then on our end, we’re trying to explore different combinations and options, from a line combination standpoint to try to set him up for success. As I’ve said, we’ve tried a lot of different combinations around it right? And we’ll probably continue to explore it, until hopefully at some point here we’ll be able to settle into something, but, we’ll see where it goes. But I was happy he scored tonight. He’s an important player for us.”
