Our Daughter Is Getting Married Today stephenmcalpine.com/our-daug… And it’s a spiritual beauty that changes you. That beckons you to be brave. To do brave things. Brave things like marry young and have children. I love the fact that Christian young people are marrying younger and deciding in a world where more of their peers are deciding not to, to have children. And having them earlier and more often. And that’s not so that we can breed secularism out. That’s partly true that it will. All religious communities have a higher number of children than average. But it’s not the goal, nor the reason. Christians are marrying young and having more children because they have something many of their secular friends do not have: hope

Kimmel didn't get uncanceled by saying he "had learned", or he will "do better". or that he will "listen more". He got his job back because, despite the pearl clutching from the left, free speech still reigns in the USA.

1. Kimmel was almost certainly incorrect. The shooter dated a trans person, mom said he was left, wrote anti-fascist messages on the bullet. That’s not MAGA. 2. ABC is a business. They can suspend whomever they want. 3. The FCC shouldn’t pressure businesses over free speech.

“So what happens when the existence of God is denied or when the practice of religion fades away? What happens is that the conditions for the possibility of civil conversation are fatally compromised. And haven’t we seen, sadly enough, ample evidence of this?” @BishopBarron
“Why has the murder of Charlie Kirk resonated so powerfully through the culture? I am convinced it has to do with the fact that he died with a microphone in his hand—not a gun or a knife or a grenade, but a microphone.” — Bishop Barron @BishopBarron firstthings.com/he-died-with…

I Blame the Parents stephenmcalpine.com/i-blame-… Now the Oxford Union, in the interests of free speech has refused to take action. And on one level that’s understandable. They love free speech. Hand it out in bucketloads at Oxford Union. The key of course is that last line in their statement on Youtube: “the discussion of complex topics should not only be encouraged but is an essential element of any free society.” Here’s the thing. George doesn’t think that. Not deep down. The word “essential” means “of essence”. What is of essence to George? Don’t get what you want by compelling argument? No worries, we’re preparing the violence option on the back burner. Hey Charlie, here’s one we prepared earlier!

I have resigned as the honorary secretary of the Oxford Literary Debating & Union Trust, the charity that owns the @OxfordUnion’s buildings, and dispenses its charitable responsibilities onto the Union as its delegate. The callousness of the Union’s President-Elect has shocked me, but I also can't accept the lack of intervention on the issue. The trust is full of the most incredible people. I hope this ultimately helps, in a tiny way, a great British institution that I care so much about.

Couple of things with Bob's reply. First, he wants us to know who the real victims are. Classic DARVO. Second, he equates liberals with the progressive rabble on campus. True liberals have been run out of town. Third, he seemed fine turning up to China to celebrate a regime that not only put people at risk, but slaughtered them by the million.

I first met Charlie Kirk about four years ago when I was in Phoenix for a speaking engagement. He reached out and invited me to breakfast. I was deeply impressed by him that day. He was a man of great intelligence, considerable charm, and real goodness of heart.   I reconnected with him just last year, after I saw him debate twenty-five young people who were, to put it mildly, hostile to his views. I texted him that I was so struck by how he kept his cool and his charitable attitude in the face of some pretty obnoxious opposition. I then asked him to appear as a guest on my interview program, “Bishop Barron Presents,” and he eagerly accepted my invitation. He was scheduled to come to Rochester, Minnesota in about ten days. The last contact we had was two nights ago. After I appeared on one of the evening news shows to talk about the Religious Liberty Commission, he texted me and told me how much he appreciated what I said and then added, “I’m excited to join you on your show soon. God bless you.”   That last sentence shows what was most important to Charlie. He was indeed a great debater and also one of the best advocates in our country for civil discourse, but he was, first and last, a passionate Christian. In fact, when we had that breakfast in Phoenix, we didn’t talk much about politics. We talked about theology, in which he had a deep interest, and about Christ. I know I’m joining millions of people around the world in praying that he rests now in the peace of the Lord.

DISGUSTING: During the @TMZ livestream today, employees at TMZ could be heard CHEERING 30 seconds before @charliekirk11’s death was announced on the TMZ livestream. They were happy to hear the news of Charlie Kirk’s death and can be heard clapping and cheering before passing the news to Harvey Levin, who was hosting the stream. @HarveyLevinTMZ needs to condemn this. I have clipped the livestream before they try to delete it. Shameful and disgusting behavior by TMZ. Shame on them. Charlie is a husband and a father. He was murdered in cold blood.

"I'm just flesh and bone, but more importantly, I'm a soul, and that soul is accountable to one being." "I've had an unbelievably blessed life... So praise God. I've been all across the world. I've met with world leaders." "I've flown Air Force One, got to know a president. I have an amazing family, the podcast Turning Point USA... And so you experienced that, and you're like, 'What actually matters?'" "What matters is your relationship with the divine, your relationship with your family, your kids, and maybe a close collection of friends, and your relationship with the truth." So much wisdom and taken way too soon. Charlie Kirk will never be forgotten.

Can they not even raise an argument with their opponent without swearing and demeaning him? No they can’t, because they have been taught at every university across the West, that the position they disagree with has no validity and therefore neither do those who hold that position. As we now know, the hatred of the Left for its opponents is not a bug, it’s a feature. stephenmcalpine.com/charlie-…

I’ve read large portions of the Patristics, having the privilege to do it sometimes even in the original languages. They are an incredibly important voice for understanding the historic Christian faith, one that cannot be ignored. Simultaneously, reading the breadth of the Church Fathers can sometimes be like walking into a modern Christian book store — you’ll find everything from Joel Osteen, to Thomas Aquinas, and John Calvin. There’s quite a spectrum of ideas, often (although obviously not always) conflicting and sparring with one another. As means of a brief example: The first invocation of holy tradition is by Ireneaus, arguing that Jesus was nearly 50 years old at his death (AH 2.22). Origen taught that human souls preexist their bodies and that you and I don’t come into existence but simply get assigned to bodies (OFP 1). Clement of Alexandria argued that the first sin was lust, and that the serpent was a metaphor for sexual pleasure (Exhortation to the Heathen, 11). Tertullian believed that those who are unmarried should postpone their baptism until they are married because of the difficulty of obtaining forgiveness of sins after baptism (OB, 18). Hilary of Poitiers, in his commentary on the Psalms, argued that Jesus’s physical body was incapable of experiencing pain because he was God and though fully man his divinity superseded the physical reality of his incarnation. Now don’t get me wrong here, I think it is *vitally* important that Christians read as much of these people as they can get their hands on. Nonetheless, the Fathers are neither a monolith nor in perfect agreement/harmony with one another on all things. If anyone says “the Early Church Fathers believed ______,” your follow up should be, “who and where?”(Maybe even “why?”) Because that matters a great deal. Nonetheless, you should read them.

Of Dingoes and Mushrooms stephenmcalpine.com/of-dingo… I cannot think of any two murder trials in Australia that have so transfixed us – and indeed created attention around the world – than those of Lindy Chamberlain and Erin Patterson. If I say “Dingo Lady” we all know who I mean. If I say “Mushroom Lady” we all know who I mean. Just as the Chamberlain events have seared into our national psyche, I suspect the Patterson events will too over time. I recall the global reach of the Chamberlain trial, springing from Lindy’s anguished declaration that a dingo had taken her baby at Uluru (at that time known as Ayer’s Rock), in 1980 while she and her family were on a camping trip.
