We are wanting better infra, better governance, better living conditions etc etc. but we aren't demanding better people that is a pre requisite for all of the above. Without changing ourselves nothing will change. As long as we remain selfish, corrupt and unconcerned about our fellow citizens or our neighborhood, asking for a better country will only remain a dream.

Master Card & Visa providing similar service globally which is far less efficient charge 1.5% to 2.5% and merchants accept it without batting an eye lid! But if the Public sector banks funded NPCI gives a much superior service at a much lower cost our people cry even after the Government repeatedly said MDR will not be passed on to the consumer! Even assuming the customer is charged for a moment, a person who can afford 20,000 worth of furniture cry to pay another ₹80!
In January I bought furniture worth 20K.
The shopkeeper clearly said: credit card se payment karoge toh 2% extra dena padega, UPI ya cash doge toh kuch extra nahi lagega.
But Nirmala aunty's brilliant economic brain thinks merchant will happily pay MDR from his pocket.

Times Now accesses the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance report that recommended an MDR framework for high-value UPI transactions.
Reportedly, 5 Congress MPs were present when the report was adopted, with no dissent recorded from them.
Meanwhile, LoP Rahul Gandhi attacks the Modi government over the UPI charges.

Very true.
The UPI panic will be short-lived.
The average consumer will open UPI, make a transaction and realise they weren't charged anything.
Yet the ecosystem still needs money to operate and expand. You can debate whether a particular subsidy or freebie is good policy. But that doesn't mean every revenue mechanism is bad.
Citizens demand better infrastructure everywhere, then panic whenever there's a conversation about how to fund it. That's the real irony!
