5 lessons learned … on the 5yr anniversary of the start of the global pandemic, the @CMA_Docs reminds us of the lessons learned. 3 of the 5 focus on health care workers.
Five years ago, the @WHO declared #COVID19 a global pandemic. As great swaths of the world locked down, hospitals became burdened by a rapidly spreading illness, and #CDNhealth was irrevocably changed.
Here's a look at what we've learned since then.

Canada is NOT broken.
We are strong. We are resilient. We will not bend to fascism. We will not be bullied. We will fight for our country against a rogue leader in the US. We will hold the line.
We will not just survive; we will thrive.

Canada is short 22,823 family physicians. That is a jaw dropping number.
There is no one single strategy that will fix this. Yes, we need more doctors, but expanding team-based care will also play a key part in meeting our country’s health system needs. cbc.ca/news/canada/the-cure-…

The solution is clear, and so is the cost of inaction. The question is, which will we choose to pay for?

Unlike in the US, Canadian families don’t go bankrupt when illness happens. Our system isn’t perfect by any stretch but I’m grateful for it and I’m very glad not to be American

I don't think the North or Rural Remote can or should accept regionalization - the distance and time factors are too great. Not sure the same is true for SE/SW Ontario or rural Nova Scotia, for example.
Replying to @alandrummond2
We know winter happens. It’s expected in Canada. We currently have random rural ER closures. Will more permanent rural closures (regionalization) result in better care? The evidence and experts like @DrLKVaughan says no.

Access to health care matters and Jordan’s principle supports access to to care for indigenous children.
There should be no delays in care because envelopes are unopened and requests not read. The health, development and lives of children depend on it.
To train the rural physicians of the future, we need to sustain the rural physicians we have today. They are the teachers who will also mentor and inspire the next generation… we need a rural physician workforce strategy to deliver on that!

It's a right, and often a prerequisite to get clean or dry or a job.

Such n important piece by @SarahGiles10.
Rural ERs matter to hundreds of communities and the staff who work in them are a critically important resource.
We have to make conditions manageable for the critical task of providing care.

Murray has always walked into dark places with a flashlight so the rest of us can safely follow. A beam of light that cuts through injustice and shows the way to hope. Sending prayers and gratitude to him and his family who continue to be so generous in sharing him with all of us🧡
As shared publicly on Facebook, the family of the Honourable Murray Sinclar has shared that he is unwell, that he is in serious and unstable condition. -- Asking for prayers from across NDN country, including allies, supporters, friend, and really any life he has touched, which is countless.
He has served us as lawyer, judge, Senator and Chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. A lifetime of bringing justice, truth and fairness for Indigenous peoples and those who have suffered in many capacities.
From his rulings, to his day to day wisdom he shares with us on social media, to the power Truth and Reconciliation Commission, he has given over and over again.
Let's pray hard in anyway that you do for him and his family, for this truly wondering human being - Justice, Judge, Senator - the honourable Murray Sinclair.
