If I listened to everyone’s opinion I’d still be in the garage wishing I had a gym to make it

So I asked Grok which Base memes actually got talked about this past month.
Exact mention totals aren’t public, but the numbers tell a pretty clear story.
30D performance:
• $BRETT +10.6% — ~$60M
• $DRB +10.3% — ~$22M
• $PONKE +7% — ~$14M
• $TOSHI -0.4% — ~$52M
• $DEGEN -6.7% — ~$38M
• $KEYCAT -21% — ~$6M
• $BLUECHIP -56%
• $BASECAT -79%
And the leaderboard barely moved.
$BRETT and $TOSHI stayed #1 and #2 throughout September, with both consistently pulling hundreds of daily mentions.
But a LunarCrush snapshot shows that mentions and reach are not the same thing.
Over the past 24 hours:
$BRETT:
• 313–380 mentions
• 47K–98K engagements
• 157–199 contributing accounts
• 88–90% positive sentiment
The mention count is strong, but engagement can nearly double from one snapshot to the next. A relatively small number of posts appears to drive a large share of the reaction.
$TOSHI:
• 336–364 mentions
• 28K–46K engagements
• 83–91 contributing accounts
• 82–84% positive sentiment
Similar mention volume to $BRETT, but a narrower spread of engagement.
$DEGEN:
• 119 mentions
• 12K engagements
• 80 contributing accounts
• 94% positive sentiment
The best tone of the three, but only around one-third of the mention volume.
If you simply annualize these daily averages across 30 days:
• $BRETT: roughly 10K mentions and 1.5M–2M engagements
• $TOSHI: roughly 10K mentions and around 1M engagements
• $DEGEN: roughly 3.5K mentions and around 350K engagements
The takeaway?
$BRETT and $TOSHI have similar mention volume.
But $BRETT is spreading further.
$DEGEN has the most positive sentiment and one of the biggest communities, but it isn’t generating the same level of daily conversation.
The numbers don’t just show who is being mentioned.
They show how far the reaction travels.
The stats don’t lie.
$BRETT is still the Base meme leader. 🐸

weird disconnect happening on @base right now and nobody's talking about it
the CHAIN is having its best year ever:
— $14.42B TVL, now the #1 rollup in crypto
— @coinbase just moved ALL financial operations onto @base
— J.P. Morgan piloting deposit tokens on it
— 400K+ daily active addresses
— contributes ~50% of @Uniswap's total revenue
meanwhile the memes built on this chain are ghosts: $BRETT — dead flat, 3,816% below ATH
$TOSHI — dead flat, near multi-year lows
$DEGEN — dead flat, 98% down
$MIGGLES — $7M mcap, the "Coinbase cat" coin nobody's touched
$KEYCAT — $54M mcap at peak, keyboard cat meme with legit IP rights, silent since
six of @base's most recognized memes, all sitting at the bottom of their charts while the chain itself prints new highs
why the disconnect? @base has no token. all that institutional growth, all that TVL, all that Coinbase integration — there's no asset that captures it. the closest thing retail has is memecoins and memecoin degen activity rotated almost entirely to Solana during this cycle
so you have the strongest L2 in crypto right now with literally no way for retail to be exposed to that growth except through memes that have been completely abandoned by the market
that's either a warning sign the memes are permanently irrelevant or it's the exact setup for a violent catch up trade when attention rotates back, the chain has never had more users, more legitimacy, or more infrastructure than it does right now while its memecoins sit ignored at the bottom
history says memes are always the last thing to move in a cycle. base just spent a year building the strongest foundation of any L2 while nobody was watching the tokens built on top of it
