I have lost count of the number of times Hamas has offered to release all hostages in exchange for an end to Israel’s assault on Gaza. They have renewed that offer, and Israel is once again refusing.

These babies won’t be included in Gaza’s official death toll, proving once again how 45,000 is a severe undercount. Yet they’re dead because Israel displaced them, destroyed Gaza’s healthcare infrastructure, and insists on punishing millions with no end in sight. Merry Christmas.

If I’m following, Israel’s logic is that nothing justifies Oct. 7 but Oct. 7 justifies everything.

One day after marking the 75th anniversary of the Geneva Conventions, Blinken’s State Dept. approves $20 billion in new weapons to Israel, the world’s worst violator of international humanitarian law:
Today we commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Geneva Conventions of 1949. The United States reaffirms our steadfast commitment to respecting international humanitarian law and mitigating suffering in armed conflict. We call on others to do the same.

This morning, people in Gaza were left to gather the charred remains of those incinerated by Israel's bombs at Al-Tabi’in. Since bodies cannot be normally recovered, people have been collecting groups of 70 kilograms of dismembered and unrecognizable body parts. Each 70 kilograms is considered the weight of one person. How are we supposed to recover from this?

this figure, reported by nyt in passing without comment, is horrifyingly high in absolute terms (highest since 67) while horrifyingly low when compared to killings (3:1, likely much lower). it concretizes how decisively the balance has shifted from expulsion to extermination.

I hope folks who were wary or skeptical of the summer 2020 demand to defund police now understand that police are simply the connective tissue for the state’s ability to actualize repression—not the magical municipal department that would save us all from “crime.”

This is what his state has done to Gaza's universities.
Anti-Semitism on campuses in the United States is reminiscent of what happened in German universities in the 1930s. The world cannot stand idly by.

Duke admits 11% of the general applicants but 23% of legacy applicants—whose parents and grandparents parents were accepted during Jim Crow. Duke didn’t even accept Black students until 1963. Now Black scholarships are banned but racist Jim Crow Legacy thrives. This is America.

[PhD project out! Pls RT!] In this world of change, we asked how natural soil microbial communities respond to environmental change. The ecological/spatial complexity of soils makes understanding community's metabolic response to perturbations challenging. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
