Can I say I really dislike the “VTubers all pretend to be helpless damsels so we baby them with money” bs that’s been floating around the community? The generalization that disabled and undiagnosed disabled people don’t exist and everyone is just freeloading is harmful and I’m tired of hearing this perpetuated as if it was true. I just crawled out of my shower chair, years of illness left me a quarter of the person I was, at least streaming I made friends and get to talk to people, as opposed to the grim alternative. I’m happy to earn my own money, I would have never made it alive this long without the audience I built. I often feel that the pressure I put on myself when I started was a lot, but it was a “get there or else”, and for many of us, that is the sad reality we are living. So next time you see someone able-bodied with lots of loving people surrounding them tell you about a life they did not live, maybe, question why they make that assumption. It’s most likely clout.
