I was in Eruku on the 24th and the 25th of December to document Christmas in the aftermath of a horrific attack. The essay and photos appear in the latest issue of @thecontinent_. Do read and share.
The night before Christmas was indeed a silent one in Eruku. As other parts of Nigeria enjoyed Christmas Eve service and Detty December concerts, the town lay under a heavy quiet, broken only by hushed conversation and the occasional moving vehicle. continent.substack.com/p/sil…

Pleased to announce @Curaffairs has put in place one of the strictest anti-AI policies in publishing. Newsrooms across the country are embracing AI writing and laying off writers. Our magazine is doing the opposite, ensuring we remain handmade. currentaffairs.org/news/why-…

In what's still a surreal career highlight, proud to share that the good doctor and mentor, @JollyPaps1, and I, sat for a conversation on this young writer's journey. A full circle moment for so, so many reasons. Read the @YLReview piece here: yabaleftreview.com/on-seeing…

I renew my appeal for an end to the ongoing violence against the Palestinian civilian population in the West Bank, and I urgently call on the international community to work toward advancing the two-state solution, for a just and lasting peace.

I saw a post on Reddit that said that “The underlying purpose of AI is to allow wealth to access skill while removing from the skilled the ability to access wealth.” And I don’t think I’ve ever seen AI described so incisively.

Educated women (living mostly paycheck to paycheck btw) like to assume that because economic insecurity led them to delay or limit childbearing, poorer women should too. But tolerance for economic uncertainty is diff for poor people because said uncertainty is already the norm.
So many topics here are over simplified. Any ethical discussion about poor people having children has to be reflective of the realities of poverty, rather than assuming everyone has the same capacity to make longterm, planned reproductive choices. Poverty, by itself, doesn’t make

Nigerian whistleblower Nnamdi Emeh, who exposed alleged extrajudicial killings and organ harvesting within the Nigeria Police Force in Anambra State, has remained in detention despite being granted bail in 2023. His trial, which began in May 2023, has faced repeated adjournments, with the Federal High Court in Awka once again postponing the hearing to October 27, 2026. Speaking to #TheICIR outside the courtroom after the latest adjournment, Emeh's counsel, Justus Ijeoma, shared his thoughts on the prolonged trial. Read: icirnigeria.org/again-court-…

The beatings worked like mad: - we cannot challenge authority - we keep electing leaders that rob us and rub it in our faces - we maintain a culture of silence that enables the cycle of abuse - we dissociate and can only process difficult emotions through the lens of religion
all the beating that nigerian parents beat their kids growing up, did it work? as a collective, do we behave like people who were well raised? this does not even require any sophisticated study, the answer is starring us in the face

Wait till you see what we found. • ₦3.5bn for a Technical & Vocational Training College in Kaduna. • ₦1.4bn for road construction in Ogun. • ₦700m for dental X-ray machines and dental chairs in Ekiti. All under the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education. And this wasn't a one-off. While analysing the 2026 budget, we found 11,122 constituency projects worth ₦6.93 trillion that blur agency mandates, making it harder for Nigerians to follow the money and hold the right institutions accountable. We unpacked what this means for the credibility of the 2026 budget in our Federal Government Approved Budget Analysis. Every Nigerian needs to know what the government is doing. Still no reaction @FIFAcom ? It seems paedophiles have a bright future ahead of them in football with your so-called ‘sanctions’
I would like to take this opportunity to republish this investigation, which NEEDS to be picked up internationally in order to bring about change Banned for 20 years by FIFA for child abuse, Jonathan Bukabakwa (known as Messi) continues to coach teenagers without any issues in the Democratic Republic of the Congo 🇨🇩 This is proof of the ineffectiveness of FIFA’s so-called safeguarding system and the failure of its ‘investigations’ into paedophilia in Congolese football, which have resulted in the conviction of just ONE coach (the least significant one, who has already been imprisoned multiple times for paedophilia), whilst leaving the system in place Thank you all for sharing this, as FIFA has (once again) failed the victims and whistleblowers who nevertheless testified before its Ethics Committee (and they cannot claim otherwise, as I put them in contact with the committee because FIFA was UNABLE to carry out even the slightest investigation) Keep the faith

How honest is your “review” then if the writer/publisher has to pay? Shouldn’t that even be unethical? It becomes a sponsored video, not an honest review.
If you are a book influencer, please have a rate card and stand by it. And no publisher or writer is doing you a favour by sending you their books in exchange of your honest review. Charge these people and charge them well. Reading is not easy.
