The government has announced plans to abolish the Carer's Allowance earnings cliff edge.
Currently, earning even slightly above £204 a week can mean losing the entire £86.45 weekly allowance.
A new taper is planned, reducing support by £1 for each additional £1 earned above the threshold.
This is welcome progress, but important questions remain.
When will it start? What happens to historic overpayment debts? And when will unpaid carers receive the wider support they desperately need?
This reform has been announced, but the current rules remain in place until implementation.

We’ve been let down at the very last minute, and we urgently need your help.
At Dogs on the Streets, every kennel we open means another dog can have a safe place to stay, a roof over their head, and a chance at a better life.
We have TWO NEW KENNEL BLOCKS ready and waiting, but we urgently need a qualified, kind-hearted electrician to install the electricity so we can start utilising these kennels as soon as possible.
We are absolutely desperate to get these kennels up and running for the dogs who need us. Every day we wait is another day we cannot make full use of this vital space.
As a charity, we rely on the kindness and generosity of others to make these things happen. We simply don't have the resources of a large commercial charity, which is why we're reaching out to our incredible community for help.
IS THERE AN ELECTRICIAN OUT THERE WHO COULD HELP US?
We are desperately seeking a qualified electrician in the Essex area who would be willing to support our charity by carrying out the installation at a charitable or heavily discounted rate.
We know there are some truly wonderful people out there who care about making a difference, and we are hoping that someone might be able to step forward when we need it most.

Just to clarify a 66 year old person looking after their disabled partner who gets attendance allowance has their care allowance stopped when the they reach pension age as it is an over lapping benefit. The partner is still doing the caring but has lost the carers allowance.

Healey should put a cap on MPs expense claims. No more £45k water bills. Let’s see a bit of housekeeping done in parliament. Allow claims but ensure they fit with the public expenditure. Anything above they pay out of their own pocket. Bring some trust back into Parliament.
